Newbie doing Weight Loss Forever

Hi! My name is Amanda, and I'm (almost) 23 years old. While I started my college years a svelte size 8, 176 pounds (very muscular from years of dance classes 5 days a week, 7 hours a day), I left college in December of 2002 a size 24. I'm still a size 24/pushing 26 at 299 pounds. Before I broke 300, I decided I had to do something about my weight and overall health to improve my quality of life and to get back to feeling like me again. This Friday I joined the Weight Loss Forever Clinics and began my prep phase Saturday morning. Has anyone else done Weight Loss Forever and had success?

These first two days are the most strict and coincidentally I've had problems already. On this "detox" phase, the only allowable foods are lean meats not fried/no skin/no salt and green vegetables. Water is the only allowable drink during these first two days. I slipped up Saturday and had a Nutty Buddy. Today I had about 8 jelly beans and a spoonful of chocolate icing left over from a birthday cake I made last week for a friend. I also can't stand to cook a lot of meat, so I've substituted Boca burgers on occasion for the "real" meat. That's the bad news. The good news is that both Saturday and today I've taken 1.5 mile brisk walks with my roommate, and I've managed to get in between 72 and 76 oz. of water each day. I've also eaten plenty of the green vegetables allowed (in my favorite form--green beans) and today ate only the "real" meats. Found a great recipie for a healthy balsamic vinegar marinade for chicken and a yummy recipe for basil burgers, both which turned out well. I'll have to share the recipes here on a later post :).

My goal weight is 180, meaning I have about 120 pounds to lose. My biggest challenges are that my job requires me to be on the road for travel roughly 3 days a week; I'm a fairly "picky" eater (probably what got me to this weight in the first place); and I haven't developed the meal planning/grocery shopping skills that go so far in helping to create a healthy lifestyle. I'm also single, and commute 112 miles round trip to work each day, so by the time I get home from work, I'm exhausted and it's easier to just pick something up from the McDonalds down the street or to pop a pizza in the oven.

Those are my challenges. I'm looking forward to supporting you in your weight loss journeys and hope I can garner a little wisdom from those of you who are veteran dieters, along with some support from those of you who are just beginning.

Tomorrow's my first weigh-in, please keep me in your prayers and hope the scale swings in my favor (despite a wicked case of PMS).

Hi Amanda, and welcome! I've never heard of the program that you're doing. Good luck with it:) I can see you have quite a few challenges there. I thought that my commute of 60 miles round trip was bad! I have the same problem as you, though, where when I get home from work, the last thing I want to do is cook. Do you have a little free time on the weekends, maybe on Sunday? If so, you can cook a few things up ahead of time, freeze them, then pop them in the microwave when you get home from work. Another idea is to have a lot of salad fixings on hand and maybe some pre-cooked chicken and make a chicken salad with pita bread (if that's allowed on your plan) one night.

Good luck with your first weigh in! I'm sure you did great. If you're PMS'ing, it might not be as low as you'd like, but that just means that you might be retaining water and your next weigh in will be much better. So don't get discouraged if you don't see the numbers that you want to. Then again, maybe that won't matter and your weigh in will be great. Either way, we're here for you:)
