Hi Judy! I'm new here, but it sounds like you are in the right place for lots of support.

First of all I would say please don't be disgusted with yourself for overeating. Hey, if we all ate the way we know we're supposed to then we wouldn't be here. You are only human and to succeed you have to forgive yourself.

Something that helps me is to remember that there are no 'good foods' or 'bad foods', meaning food is just fuel for your body. Some foods just give you a lot more fuel with less calories. I try to focus on those foods, thinking that will really help my body function better. If I think about what I can't have, then I start obsessing, and that leads to bingeing.

Remember you are not your body. You are a wonderful person who deserves to feel healthy!!

Good luck to you, I know you can reach your goals, just hang in there!--Vera

Hi Judy,

Can I recommend some good books? Have you ever seen Kathleen Daelamens on the cooking channel? She's a woman who lost over 75 lbs probably 12-14 years ago, and kept it off ever since, and she's a chef at a fancy health spa in Hawaii. Anyway, she has two books out (one brand new one which was published in March, and I haven't seen that one yet). The book I have seen (circ. 2002) is both cookbook and personal journey pep talk. I think it might help you, and I highly recommend it. Another book, I think the title is Healthy Heart Cookbook was written by a man and wife team out of Gig Harbor, Washington (and they have several, I think). It's a big cookbook but it's also filled to the brim with healthy eating advice.

Oh, is that what it was.Yes it helped.I have decided I can lose weight again and this time keep it off with the support of my friends(I hope you willbe)here.I will do my exercise tape every day even though I can not do it all yet I will do what I can.I find Richard Simmons tapes are easier for me.I had a friend at work who gave me hers and so I have them all. Thanks for your words of encouragement. Will be posting again soon to say I lost some weight.

Thank you for your info.I have been exercising hit and miss with my Richard Simmons tapesso far I can do 15 minutes,I also have a treadmill but I find it very boring no matter what I do.I made up my mind I can do this and with the help and support of this board I know I can make it.I am doing this for me.I tried the Atkins and it worked while I was on it but it was too restrictive.I go by my husbands diabetic diet,my doctor said it was good for me also.THank you so much for your interest.

Welcome! I'm new here too, started my "diet" this past Saturday. It's a struggle every day to not eat the Ben & Jerry's in the freezer, or to pass up the loaded cheese fries when I go out to eat. But it gets easier every day and like your member name says, you're a work in progress; we all are. That's why we're here. Good for you for taking the first step and posting. I think you'll find a supportive community here. Good luck starting off on the right foot!
