Grr. I've had to make a number of car repairs in the last three months, and I thought I was finally done with them last week, when I had a defective starter replaced (for free; I'd been prepared to spend $600 to get a new flywheel). Well, today I smelled something funny in the car, a smell I'd noticed before. Only this time I saw little wisps of smoke. Coming from my dashboard. Yikes!

So, I can't drive the car until I'm able to get it into the shop Friday morning, and of course the shop can't tell what's wrong until they pull the dashboard off and try and find whatever it is that's shorting out. Labor is $58/hour...let's just pray that the problem is obvious, parts are relatively inexpensive, and that it's not a time-intensive repair. Oh, how I want a different car...and oh, how I just can't afford it.

:-(

Are you sure you can DRIVE it in? Did the shop say it would be okay to drive, or can somebody come out and check it first? My dealership does that, if necessary. I'd be concerned for your safety if the car is shorting out because you don't want a fire under the hood and a tank of gas. Be careful, and stay safe.

I'm not driving it. It's going to remain parked until I take it to the repair shop tonight or early tomorrow morning, and the repair shop is about a 3 min drive from my apartment.
