There are other things that can cause some of these symptoms besides the thyroid.

I asked my mom about her syptoms as well since she wasn't diagnosised until the late 70's with it and she never experienced 90% of those you listed. Interesting time for more researching.

From what you are telling me is that majority of the people are misdaignosised. Interesting that was the first thing they thought of with me and even know when I am a bit under the weather. Then again I know they look at hypo a bit different than hyper and the symptoms are completely different. Hypo is more or less your body attacking the thyroid.

Interesting how things are changing since I first was diagnosised.

Actually, Hashimoto's is when your body is attacking your thyroid.

According to ATA and to my doctor that is basically the same thing, especially in my case. "In most cases, hypothyroidism is caused by a condition called Hashimoto’s thyroiditis." -- American Thyroid Association (thyroid.org).

I do not count myself lucky. I believe I have very good doctors who are knowledgeable. In both my mother's case, my own, and a few friends I know who are dealing with a thyroid disorder, we have not experienced the type of problems you have had with it, which is not right in the least (I completely sympathize with you in dealing with such misdiagnosises). It could be contributed to the fact that Houston has one of the best medical field in the country and most assuredly the Medical Center is one of the best in the world or that we have all been as you say lucky to find the right doctor.

I am not going to get into a huge debate about it. Suffice it to say that from my research both recent and in the past, I am not in complete agreement with everything you have shared. No right or wrong here just simple disagreement.

LOL - here are MY thyroid sypmtoms...the main thing that finally drove me to the doctor was splitting, cracking nails, extremely dry skin, and feeling cold all the time. The new "home test" that can give you an indication is to take your temperature first thing in the morning - if it is consistently below 97 degrees, they recomment a thyroid test. Mine was always 95.4.
