DAMMIT THUMP DAMMIT THUMP DAMMIT THUMP DAMMIT THUMP THUMP THUMP....

I am so THUMP irritated right THUMP now that I THUMPTHUMPTHUMP could tear my !@#*$#! hair out. THUMP.

A quick synopsis :

I have lost 90+ pounds since 2000.

Have done Atkin's on/off. Lost weight.

Did Atkin's religiously this January into mid-February.

Lost more weight. :)

Got cholesterol tested. Twice. :(

Suspected Atkin's high amounts of sat fat to be responsible.

Went on low fat/fat free diet plus more excersize. Have till June to get numbers down.

I have cut out red meat, cheese, almost all fats save olive oil and what I get from chicken n' stuff.

Done this since March 15, lost more weight.

Saw dietician today.

She put me back on a lower fat version of Atkin's and added nuts, fruit and yogurt.

WTF???

She said that as I lose weight, the fat the I'm losing is circulating in my bloodstream and will be filtered out by my body and excreted, which may be another reason why my cholesterol was high. She wants me to get down to 135 pounds. HAAA HAAA HAA HAA!!!!!!!!!

Impossible. I was 128 when I was TWELVE. As I've said before, I'd be so skinny I'd fall through my own ass and hang myself (THIS I refrained from saying to her.) I tend not to tell other health care people I have been a licensed health care worker and have a vast store of knowledge about the human body right down to enzymatic fuction. Or that I own over 300 books. I like to see what they have to say before I start defending myself.

I actually said to her, well, I'd like to lose about ten more pounds, but maybe be somewhere between 150 and 160. I like the body I have now, and just because I may end up skinny doesn't mean I'm healthy.

Oooh, I POKED THE WEASEL. ( she is 5'0, maybe 99 pounds, all sinewy like a gazelle, and a runner. NOT a jogger. A RUNNER.)

POKE POKE POKE. POKITYPOKITYPOKE.

So I went home with my 'new' diet that I had been doing on my own, and she tweaked it a bit to include add the nuts and stuff.

We'll see how this goes. I'm thinking this is more of an intertesting experiment rather than a diet. So, I'm on a diet again, but I'll pop in and out to say hello.

Thanks for letting me vent! You guys are awesome.

Amy The Weasel Poker >>

Oh my GOD. My boyfriend went postal when I came home and told him this lovely news. He is so sick of seeing me struggle emotionally with my eating habits, because I've been doing so good. He was so pissed that he WALKED a half mile round trip for cigarrettes. (Had none because he's quitting). I call him Sloth Carcass for a reason. He shocked me today.

I'm not really ANGRY, but it's like WTF? I just spent $170 on groceries yesterday and a goo portion of them I can't eat now. And I had to go out AGAIN today after my consultation and get nuts, yogurt, flax seeds, fish, fish oil, fruit. And what the hell is up with blueberries being $2.99 a half pint ?!?! You know where Shaw's can put those berries ???

Ok, I feel better now...

Amy

Awwww...Amy. That really sucks!!! I really hope that you can get this figured out. A lower fat version of Atkins could be a great thing for your cholesterol. Atkins isn't necessarily supposed to be high fat...it's all about the types of fat you choose to eat (that sounds so gross...eating fat...lol).

Anyway, I hope that this works for you. And I would say go for how you feel not the number on a scale. You're absolutely right...skinny does NOT equal healthy all the time.

I don't think it's very nice to refer to people as 'skinny freaks'. How would you like if someone called you a Fat Freak?

I was referring to the group that makes up that asinine board that tells you what weight is healthy and what isn't. That silly board has people such as Michael Jordan as unhealthy and overweight.

I am not going to apologize for referring to that asinine, sterytypical, and downright discriminating board or people who follow it skinny freaks.

However, I will apologize for any implication that it was precieved as a general statement about those who are at a smaller weight.

As for someone calling me that, I truly relish the day someone has the balls enough to do that. It might be interesting to say the least.

Yeah, no SH*T, huh ? I only have to deal with her once more, but I'm telling my Nurse Practitioner that the first thing out of this woman's mouth was about me losing weight. NOT about my cholesterol. And 135 pounds ? No way. I'd be dead at 135.

I'm ok with what she gave me for a diet, because I was already doing it anyway at my own discretion, and she added yogurt, nuts and fruit. This makes me happy because i can have more variety, and i'm not even eating all the carbs I'm allowed to, anyway. I'm allowed 77 grams a day and I'm lucky that I make it to 60. But, it's only been two days so we'll see.

I still want to poke her with a stick.

I agree - and althought the dietician that i saw does not recommend one diet over another, she believes that Atkins is on to something with the carbs. If you stick to leaner cuts of meet and don't go crazy with cheese and other sources of sat fat, the diet is fine.

Which, coincidentally is what I have been doing since mid March. She just tweaked it a bit, so wish me luck !

I so get you and I agree with you.

My dietian prego is 170 and she looks great...healthy. We talked about my natural weight not waht some gym rat decided should be my weight and I need to lose exactly 100 from my weight now to get where she would like to see me.

I have a pine tree branch that needs to be cut down...want it?

All the better to flog her with ! And I can't believe that I spelled meat m-e-e-t in a post to su froggy....

You know, not everyone is meant to be tiny ! And there is no such thing as frame size, either - big boned, small boned - either you are tall or short and have bones that correspond to your size. Skeletal frame size IS different between men and women. And what I mean is actual SIZE, like bone circumference and length. And you are either fat or thin. Fat is not a bad word, it's just descriptive. As George Carlin said, people aren't big-boned - dinosaurs were big boned. People aren't heavy - an aircraft carrier is heavy. To my dietician, I am fat. When I compare myself to my ex boyfriend, HE is fat, I am not. And this frame size bs stemmed from the Met Life Actuarial Tables from the 40's when EVERYONE, regardless of race, age or sex were given a weight range that would be healthy for their height. Frame size came in to play when the insurance people saw that someone could have a weight fluctuation of 40 pounds and still be considered healthy. This was also when being thin was more popular, so they created 'frame size' to further pigeonhole people. AND the weights/heights/frames were based on white, middle age men who wrote whatever they wanted to on their chart. Go figure.

I got this info from a book called Fat!So? by Marilyn Wann, but I also checked it out for myself.

If I ever weighed 135 I would be rather foul looking, rather like a fashion model. When I worked for Lane Bryant back in 1995, I did a bit of in-store modeling, and I fit in the 14's. I would have liked to be a plus size model, but the thought of living in New York kills me. It's a great city, I just don't think I could deal with it.

And so I continue to poke the weasel. ( And I wonder if she knows that carrying a few extra pounds makes you look a bit younger? She is 49, but her face is very drawn and mask-like. I'm 31 and look 22. HAHA!)

I hear ya sista!!!

If I was ever going to lesson to the gym rats or the skinny freaks (yes I did say that) then I would not only be unhealthy, I would also look anarexic. My body is not made to be the cookie cutter look of 135 and under. And I refuse to allow anyone to tell me I need to be at that weight just because some asinine board on what the BMI should be says so.

I also have the same problem 32 and look 21 on a good day. No makeup and I get carded at the movies.

I have a bull whip as well...i can lend it to you
