I was doing one of those lovely heart calculators to see where my heart rate needed to be to burn off calories....hmmm well it bites.

My target rate is 94-159. YEAH and JOY! My heart rate (96) is that at rest with my meds. Now how am I going to increase my heart rate? If they take me off my meds, my heart rate will shot up to 125ish at rest. Nothing I can do about that.

That would make me crazy. I take a beta-blocker and it does something similar. I think those calculators are really just suggestions. Anytime you move your body you burn calories, even if your heart rate is artificially depressed.

Good Luck,

Erin

Really. Isn't it weird how one med for one thing can be used for another.

I have extremly low blood pressure but the indral helps slow my heart rate and it's a beta blocker as well.

It is wierd. Beta blockers are also used to treat acute anxiety. Because the decrease the heart rate they decrease the subjective feeling of panic. Fun fact.

You know I wonder if it is controlling my rate so much that I can't get the rate up high enough to do some good cardio?

That's probably why your blood pressure is so low--Inderal is a beta blocker, but it is also an antihypertensive used to treat high blood pressure.

Yes yes thank you. But that is not why. I naturally have low blood pressure... always have

runs in my family...even with the heart disease.

If your blood pressure is low to begin with, using Inderal will make it drop even more.

My aunt has low blood pressure, and her doctor has to double check the side effects of medicines he places her on so her blood pressure doesn't end up getting too low--she develops fainting spells when it does. The last time that happened she fussed at him like a wet chicken--I don't think he ever had an 80-year-old woman put him in his place before, but he's been very careful and respectful ever since, lol!

again thank you...I do know this.

My concern is how it effects my heart and raising the heart rate for a good cardio.

I have been on this way too long not to know what it does to my body and what it doesn't.
