I was doing one of those lovely heart calculators to see where my heart rate needed to be to burn off calories....hmmm well it bites.

My target rate is 94-159. YEAH and JOY! My heart rate (96) is that at rest with my meds. Now how am I going to increase my heart rate? If they take me off my meds, my heart rate will shot up to 125ish at rest. Nothing I can do about that.

Have you discussed this with your doctor or pharmacist? There may be recommendations or different guidelines regarding exercise for patients on beta blockers.

Yeppers and I was told basically that unless they take me off of it it will be rather hard to get it high enough to truly do some good. I had called my cardiologist about my metabolism and that is what is helping it stay lower.

Taking me off of the med of anything like that is a NO and will stay that way.

You know what I am wondering if just getting into shape and being patient about the lose is the best route to go.

Karrie, another way to evaluate your heart rate is by perceived exertion or what we also call the talk test.

I have heard that. Problem with that and me is that I was singing professionaly for a long time and learned how to dance and sing and all that good stuff at the same time. Issue about singing is that people forget you take breaths from you diaphram if you are singing properly. A good breath from that region negates the shallow breaths from you chest. Even talking I breath with my diaphram.

I have talked a bit more with doc. The issue lies in the fact that if I increase my heart rate to the "burn" rate that it needs to be in regards to my personal rate, my heart will not take it. Looks like toning and walking to increase length of excertation is all that I have. Ya'll I am getting used to the idea of being fat and happy and at the same time healthy and in shape.
