I plan on meeting a couple other people soon when they travel to this area...there are 2 friends that are coming this way later this year and hopefully we'll at least get to hang out for a few hours while they're passing through.

But I think that it as just as risky meeting someone in the usual way. After all, you are complete strangers before you meet someone in the "real world". And I have met many wackos in the real world, believe me!
I personally don't think it's pathetic...I think it's kind of cool that you can connect with people that you otherwise may have never met.
Just my two cents...

1999-1st a guy from California came to spend weekend with me(i'm from OH) we had chatted for over a year on IM and talked on phone a few times.2000-2nd a guy that lived in a town close to me we chatted one night and met at the mall the next day for the movies(we ended up dating for awhile then became just friends because his job had him travel 9 mo.)2000- 3rd a guy i chatted with for awhile and talked with phone a few times decided to meet, it went ok but we didn't connect so was just friends. 2001-4th a guy i talked with for months came down and went on a double date with me and a friend, went great we ended up dating awhile and are still friends. And he talks to the friend we double dated with still.
It was fun reading some of your stories and that some of you found love and friends.
I was born in Marshall, MI, lived in Battle Creek most of my life. You near there?
Yep, several people.
Very soon after I first experienced the internet I wandered in a chat room. I met a great bunch of people there and formed a tight group with them. This was the summer of 1996. I formed an especially strong attachment to a certain young man there and we chatted for hours. He came to visit me for New Year's Eve that year. We had never met face to face or even exchanged pictures. I lived alone and he was coming to visit and bringing his cousin (also a guy) with him. In retrospect it might not have been the brightest thing to do, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.
Later that spring I invited everyone from the chat room to my house for Mardi Gras, including this special young man I had met

Yep, that internet is a scary place. Most advise against it. I wouldn't. No reason to.
Yep,
