And I'll probably get blasted and all that but I have to ask.

Why is there so much animosity toward "skinny people" on this board?

I don't understand why people have no problem saying how snotty and judgemental skinny people are when they are being just as snotty and judgemental *toward* skinny people.

Why do you hate what you want to become? how do you know that skinny person isn't a formerly fat person? How do you know they are looking at you disgusted?

I know it's hard to imagine but skinny people have just as many body issues as fat people. It took me a long time to realize that...for a long time I wanted to smack the girls that said, "I hate this belly" as they lifted their shirt to reveal a perfectly fine "belly". But as women, we are taught to aim for unattainable perfection that doesn't exist.

I just think it's funny that so many people have a problem with skinny people when it is our goal to become "skinny".

JMHO...

Hey Coffee,

I think Sarah is referring to posts such as http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-fb100plus&msg=115217.1 and http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-fb100plus&msg=115217.2 where people are expressing frustration at "skinny" people who have pissed them off, not necessarily the trolls.

I agree Coffee.

You have proven my point for me with that post (and the reply to that post).

The first line of the OP (after a disclaimer that she'd probably get blasted)

well everyone...I am so glad I'm not the only one who feels this way or sees this.

So far your supporters have been:

  1. a person who jumped in on the bashing
  2. a skinny person
  3. a new poster who is "skinny" and who first posted yesterday to debate the seat belt issue and then went on to debate the "skinny bashing" post
  4. the troll itself

Give it time, I'm sure this post will turn into a great debate.

Okay, maybe I read the posts I was referring to wrong. To me it seemed like they expressed frustration at people who had pissed them off, but made pointed referrals the person's body size or the body in general, "Oooh, I POKED THE WEASEL. ( she is 5'0, maybe 99 pounds, all sinewy like a gazelle, and a runner. NOT a jogger. A RUNNER.)" and "skinny freaks".

I understood the frustrating circumstances the poster was experiencing, but bringing in the body size and making disparaging remarks regarding it can come across as animosity towards "skinny people".

I completely understand what the trolls are trying to accomplish--they just want to sow the seeds of discord, belittling, baiting and acting superior, then step back and watch the resulting "train wreck". I didn't think at all that you were saying the trolls were blasting skinny people.

Sorry if my prior post wasn't clear--accurately expressing what one is trying to say can be a pain in the rear sometimes!

Coffee, if I can jump in without getting "blasted." I don't think her post is "out of line" at all, and in fact I congratulate her for having the courage to bring it up. I'm sure others, perhaps some of the newer posters whom others have not attacked but who never appear beyond their "introduction" have noticed the same thing, and have probably ran off because of it. I mean, losing weight can be challenging enough without hearing this sort of thing (as exemplified in your post) about the "resident troll" (whom I know I've also been accused of being, along with just about anyone whom certain "regulars" have targeted).

Do you think losing weight is challenging? I'd love to see your introduction post. I must have missed it. Although I know you haven't been here "that long" *wink wink nudge nudge*

So, tell us about your challenges and how you've overcome them. Have you gotten past your poor upbringing? Have you gotten past blaming your parents for everything that's wrong in your life? How are you dealing with your over-excessive use of parenthesis (by the way)? That was you who posted she had those problems, right?

The board shouldn't be someplace to vent (someone wrote about feeling better after attacking "trolls")...it should be a place where grown up women, and men perhaps, could come together for a few minutes a day to discuss our common issues. How are we going about reaching our weight goals? How can we lend each other a hand? NOT....how can we have fun attacking someone we label as "different" whether because they are "skinny" or for whatever reason.

So share with us, please. We really know so little about you *smile*

I for one don't hate skinny people! In fact, there is a skinny woman inside me just screaming to get out.....but...I can usually shut her up with a cookie.

I am sorry if I offend anyone with my humor. It just felt like the debate could use a little levity.

(low fat/low carb cookie!)

Nope, I think you read them right:

You and I just interpreted the original post in this thread differently, I suppose. I saw this thread as saying, "Why are you bashing skinny people since you should be looking up to them?" which I think is total BS.

Now, I always think it's a good idea to be as nice as you can to people IRL, but I also think that a support board like this should be a safe place to vent some frustrations.

It's all good *smile*

Heya, Furry! Great to see you purring away here!

Right on, sister. You said it and good! Two thumbs up.

I've been keeping up with you here, and itching to jump in. I had the day off and just couldn't resist.

(We went to the Humane Society this afternoon and may be coming home with another furry feline AND another dog soon!)

I may say something when a skinny person says something to or about an overweight person, but I don't really have anything against skinny people.
