I go to Aldi's very often. It DOES save quite a bit of money, especially because I don't have a lot of other shopping opportunities here. I reuse my own bags (which I prefer for environmental reasons) or use the boxes they often have available there. It's much cheaper than Jewel or Red Fox which are the other main shopping places here where I live.

i shop Aldi's along with other stores, some items are cheaper and others i can cheaper other place i am a veteran shopper..lol..so i usually know where to get best deal. I use my plastic bags and the boxes that are empty there and keep quarter in my car ashtray(i don't smoke) It's not that bad i usually stock up when i go and dd helps unload and bag things. some things that are cheaper for me there are condiments, laundry detergent, cereal (although sometimes u can get cheaper at a reg. store on sale with coupons),raw and canned vegetables, bread. I forget what else i get..lol..but i'd try it out and see if you find anything.

The closest thing we have here is WinCo, which I H*A*T*E with a passion (Wal-Mart's a close second). Stores like WinCo and Wal-Mart (and even Costco) have a weird vibe to them...it stresses me out, so I avoid going there if at all possible.

I work as a cashier at a store like that. It is only here in Ohio, and called Marc's. Our prices or so low I don't understand how we all can make a living. We do supply the bags and don't charge for the carts, lol. People here on the board from Ohio know Marc's, I'm sure. I've compared with other stores and really we can't be beat. We are so busy all day long. Always a line and time just flies by. :-) Stephanie 280/225/170 Atkid since 6/15/2003

Wow I want one of them stores!!! We have one store that usually has really good sales but I don’t go there its not in the best neighborhood and its just so dirty inside you don’t even want to pick anything up so I take their sales paper to Wal-Mart and add match lol…. Im not a coupon person mostly because I always forget to get them and don’t get the paper so I don’t think about it but I do add match anything I can…. Here Wal-Mart Is a lot cheaper then everything else….. So you have to make due… I am so tired of spending so much on groceries it is really getting ridicules Desiree

HMM, I wonder if those type of stores would do well here? We don't have anything near that. In fact the biggest craze down here are stores like Whole Foods and Central Market that specialize in speciality, gourmet and more natural offerings. Pay a bit more but when you can get anything made with senlt flour it's worth it.

I've never seen one of those, so maybe such stores are in limited areas. I don't clip coupons, but then fresh produce or meat and fresh fish is not normally "couponable" and I don't buy processed foods, for which there are always coupons. I can hardly wait for produce stands to have the fresh local stuff, and then very little will be purchased from any grocery anyway here. (I think carrying your own cloth bag is a good idea in any case, and I usually do that or a basket for ecology reasons...always have).

In our little corner of hell here in northern NH, we have big stores like Shaw's, Shop n' Save, DeMoulas...I do buy things at Walmart, like detergents, rice, diet soda, and other things that are quality-consistent no matter where you go. I have been bringing back my Walmart bags to use because the last time I opened the cupboard under the sink, a blue plastic bag hurricane came flying out and knocked me into next week. I think I had hoarded something in the neighborhood of 4,000 bags. I'm saving them to build a house with, LOL.

Seriously, I will go to a big grocery store because they have better produce and seafood, but sometimes Walmart has better deals on the cluck. When the local farm starts it's produce stand, it is mobbed all day and you have to push cows out of the way to pick your own stuff. It's kind of funny, picking beans with a cow and her calf. (I love baby cows - the tops of their heads smell like fresh milk !)

We have a health store about 25 miles away called the Healthy Rhino, and whenever I'm in town, I stop there for funky things that I can't get in the White-Bread Boring-Ass supermarket.

You have to be creative up here!
