MY KNEES HURT!!

But I did start to have a faster heart rate....hmmm heels and climbing might be what I need.

I am hoping that in another week I can climb 4 flights of stairs without stopping to catch my breath or resting because my knees hurt.

It was nice to feel my muscles burn on the way down and on the way up. Unfortunately tonight won't be a night that I can exercise. BUMMER!! But there are so many little things you can do when you go to the bathroom at work. My aunt who is a dancer taught me one of the moves in ballet that help with your arms is great for toning and you can do it anywhere since it is very low impact but has a great burn.

Think about it....after you finish your forth glass of water and start going on the hour you can take a few minutes and do a rep of 8 and get some movement in.

Oh ya'll...

I have a goal for this month and that is to lose 10 pounds by my birthday which is May 14th. Doable...possible...reachable...I believe I can do it.

I don't know; stairs don't bother me and I take stairs whenever possible. Stairs, evil? Nah. Good exercise.

For once can you say something positive?

I was simply added some humor to it and if you bothered to read the whole thing you would have realized I directly pointed to the fact my knees don't handle it very well.

I refuse to respond to another one of your posts. If your mother didn't teach you please let me....if you can't say anything nice and on here positive then don't say anything at all.

POOF!!! YOU HAVE BEEN BANISHED!

Why so angry, Karrie? I did say something positive, and I always do. I said that I enjoy stairs and they are good exercise, not evil at all. That's possitive. FYI "evil" (your assertion) is negative, "good" (my assertion) is positive. See the difference?!

Forte, you DID NOT say anything positve at all to Karrie, you just disguised a snide comment in a shroud of 'oh, it doesn't bother ME...' Well, she wasn't talking about you ! She was talking about her.

Well, Karrie has knees from hell, and especially if your patellas don't align in their grooves correctly like mine did (which incidentally took physical thereapy and weight loss to correct) you will have issues with stairs.

Karrie is doing something good for her body despite it being uncomfortable, let's just focus on that. She is doing what she has time for and has specific goals, and is keeping positive.

So, GPS, Forte.

Give it a rest! I said stairs were good exercise, not "evil" and that's what I meant.

I was told by an orthopedic surgeon years ago that stairs were one of the worst exercises you can do. He forbid me from running/walking stairs in my PE class and encouraged me to ride the exercise bike instead--and I was in excellent physical condition from swim team. I had two other friends who were not permitted to run stairs after arthroscopic knee surgery. Stairs are EXTREMELY hard on the knee, whether you're overweight or not.

It is and I have talked with my doc and he said that I can do no more than 3 floors. The whole objective there is to help strengthen the muscles from my lower thigh that connect with my knee. I should reduce pain in a few weeks. But no more than 3 floors so that's 6 flights. YIKES.

Well, you make a good point. In some cases stairs probably shouldn't be used as a form of exercise, but it's always important to listen to your doctor and do what he or she tells you. In many other cases, doctors recommend stairs as an excellent form of exercise. Is this really a biggie? I don't think so. If your doctor says don't climb stairs, then don't. If a doctor says it's okay, or if a person has no medical condition contraindicating it and it doesn't hurt...then it's good aerobic exercise. Take care.
