Can the diet continue???

I am not totally sure, but I think I can continue to diet even while I am.....

YEP, we are PREGNANT!!! Expecting baby #8 to arrive just a week before Christmas!!

I do remember that my midwife last time told me that I could do the low carb thing to avoid having a HUGE baby. My second baby was over 12lbs. BUT, I didnt really stick to the low carb diet last time, and my little Andrew was my smallest one so far at only 8 lbs 7oz SO, I think it is still safe to watch what I eat and try to low carb it as much as possible.

I would still like to get down to 250 before I start gaining weight again for the baby. That way when I am done, I will be at approx 250 and can pick up where I left off :)

Anyone know any reason why I cant do this?

Hugs,

Jennifer

279/268/250 short term goal....

As long as you're taking in enough healthy foods, there's absolutely no reason why you can't "diet" in that sense. I hate the word diet, anyway, and I call it a healthy eating style.

Just make sure the carbs you eat are the good carbs and not the processed ones and I think you'll do great! Eat plenty of whole grains.

Hey, what could be wrong about eating whole grains, fruits, veggies, and low saturated fats while pregnant?

Congratulations! That's awesome news!! I can't help you with the low carb question, though. The only advice that I have is talk to your doctor. He or she will know what's best for you. But like Coffee said, I don't see any reason why your doctor would discourage you from eating healthier. Good luck!

I would never say I am a super mom, or wife, but we do what we can :)

We are a blended family, 3 of mine, 3 of his and now to be 2 of ours. Not sure when we will stop..rofl. We can afford them, and we LOVE LOVE LOVE having a big family, so I guess we will be done when we are done.

Thanks for all the congrats, tips and encouragement....

I will stick around, I am sure as Coffee said, that eating healthy cant be a bad thing.

Also, on the whole grains thing...I buy my wheat in a 50 lb bag, grind it myself and bake bread...(used to do it more, need to do it again) so I dont think you can get much more whole grain than that....

Congratulations on baby! YOu can definetely afford to not gain a lot of weight with your pregnancy. I was overweight when I was expecting #3, & #4. I gained only 13 lbs. with #3 and 11 lbs. with #4. They both turned out exceptionally well if I do say so myself:) The key with the low carb thing and be pregnant is to make sure you do not go into ketosis. The baby will be exposed to ketones and they just aren't sure that is a good thing for baby. So keep your carb counts up with plenty of fruits and veggies, drink lots of water, and you should be golden! HTH and have fun--I loved being pregnant. KSAS

Hi Jennifer,

Congrats on the pregnancy! You ask, can the diet continue while pregnant? Well, that's really between the doctor and you. If I were in your situation, I'd follow the doctor's advice to the letter. If the doctor wants your diet to continue, with or without modification, then do that. If no, then no. So much depends on creating a healthy baby right now, that you really need to follow your own doctor's advice. Have a happy!
