Are you looking to count calories, fat grams or carbs?

I'm doing much the same, so here's my approach. First of all, I used to be terrible about skipping meals, especially breakfast. Now I have a bowl of oatmeal every day. I've read that oatmeal keeps you full and keeps blood sugar level, and I like it - I just throw in a packet of sweetner and a pinch of cinnamon. I also try to limit carbs, especially the simple ones, so I try to have a protein-rich snack at least every three hours - nuts, or a hard boiled egg, etc. I've also made a rule NOT to eat in front of the TV, in the car, etc. When I'm home I set the table properly and eat at the table - that prevents that mindless snacking I used to do. Lastly, I do try to drink more water - or diet soda, or Crystal Lite, etc. Here's a typical day for me:

Breakfast - oatmeal and milk.

Snack - small handful of nuts

Lunch - salad with a bit of canned salmon or sliced chicken or turkey.

Snack - egg or nuts etc.

Dinner - any kind of meat - a steak, chicken, fish or whatever and some roasted or grilled vegetables - sometimes a scoop of mashed potatoes or some cream corn (both of which I LOVE even though I know they are carb-rich). And a piece of fruit, or if no potatoes then a scoop of ice cream, a couple of cookies, or a few Hershey's kisses.

When I count my calories, I find that I'm averaging about 1500 a day.
