when you see yourself on video or in a picture and you are in utter disbelief? Like, who is that woman? I saw some video taken on Easter. I was in most of it because I was holding my (absolutely adorable) 3 1/2 month old son. Three thoughts:

1. Oh my god, I can't believe I'm really that fat.

2. I need to never wear floral pajamas again.

3. I seriously need some highlights.

Ugh. Good weight loss motivation I suppose.

Yes, I've had those moments. In fact, last year, I was looking at pictures with some people at school. In the background of one was this really large woman. She kind of looked familiar...and then I realized it was me! Holy crap! I couldn't believe I was that big. There was a total disconnect between how *I* saw myself and how I obviously looked. Scary. It didn't prompt me to immediately start losing weight, but that picture has often been on my mind.

It sucks, but sometimes we *NEED* that little kick in the pants!

Something similar happened to my husband. We went to a party in the summer and he was looking at the pictures. He was trying to figure out who "that bald guy" was in one picture, and it was him from the back! He was pretty mortified.

Don't you just hate how brutally honest pictures can be? I cringe every time I see myself in a picture. Hopefully that will change soon :-)

You also gotta remember that cameras are not especially accurate.

I'm not sure if it's good to know I'm not alone in this! I'm sorry to hear everyone else has this feeling. I suppose the good news is that we are probably our worse critics. Even at my thinnest I cringed when I saw pictures of myself. I cried when I got my senior pictures back in high school. I probably weighed 160, but I thought I looked SOOOOO fat. Now I see them and think I look SOOOO dorky. Why did we think it was okay to wear vests? :)

in December 99 (the big Millenium New Years) I got free tickets to a VERY swanky ($1500 a couple) party. I brought 2 formal dresses, not being able to decide which one to wear, and ruled one of them out because I COULDN'T FIT INTO IT!!!

What's really shocking to me now is how little that bothered me. I really was so in denial about my weight. I imagine that most people would be very upset and/or cry if they couldn't fit into an outfit but I was just like "feh, I'll just wear the other dress, it's bigger."

It took me another 9 months before I got my act together and started living a healthier lifestyle.
