I was up in your neck of the woods today (literally!). DH and I went up to Franconia Notch and went for a hike at the basin. Halfway out it started to rain on us :( I don't know what happened, it was beautiful out when we left our house in MA, but by the time we got up there it was raining! So we got in the car, went to get a bite to eat and drove around for awhile. Just got back about 20 minutes ago. I just wanted to let you know that I was up there and I thought of you :-)

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I work only about a mile from exit 32 right off of 93...right on Main Street at Lincoln PD !! You were THISCLOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, what was up with the rain ? It was very poopy and humid, although I do like the smell of wet pavement. My officers and I have been bored to tears - one keeps calling in for the Bruins/Canadiens score, the other goes out on patrol, comes back with a coffee for me, goes out on patrol, comes back with a soda, inoutinoutinoutinout.

I like walking from the Flume to the Basin, and sometimes park at lafayette CG and walk to Profile Lake. I'm sure your'e aware, but several years ago a big mother chunk of rock came off and boinged down Cannon Cliff, and when you walk on the path to Profile, one of the chunks rests right next to the trail. Trees have started to grow again, but it left this swath of nakedness that is very impresive.

You will have to let me know when you are coming up again to this area and i will let you know if I am working that day - stop in and say hi ! Hopefully I won't be super-busy, but that would be cool !

Of course, if the idea wigs you out, that is ok, too. I won't be offended. (Hey, I can't be TOO weird if I work here. On second thought, the people who work here are pretty weird, but in a 'good'way...LOL)

Well, it should be pretty safe to meet you at a police station! If that's not safe then I don't know what is. That's funny that we were that close today. It was actually a spur of the moment kind of trip. My dh had to pick up a rental car at the Manchester airport to take for business for next week, and since he had the car he figured why not go for a drive? The weather was so nice down here, we figured that it would be a good day to go. When we were getting rained on, we were like WTF? But we had fun anyways.

I've always wanted to do that walk to Profile Lake, but I always figured I was too out of shape to do it (it's like 5 miles round trip, isn't it?) I'm sure I could do it now, since I've been exercising a lot. This summer we'll definitely have to check it out.

I'll definitely let you know the next time we go up there. I think it would be so cool to meet you!

BTW, I love the smell of wet pavement, too. I thought it was just me.

Isn't it nice, like JUST AFTER it gets wet ? And then the sun comes out and steams up the pavement and the sky is that deathly gray on one side of the sky, but the sun pokes out ?

The walk to profile isn't bad - no real hills, it just wobbles up and down, and ir you are worried about being out of shape, I did it in Feb of 2000 when I weighed 230 and was loaded with heavy boots and clothes. I was with my old boyfriend and our Chocolate Flabrador (yeah, she was fat TOO)and we all survived, so it's not like climbing Lafayette, which I've done, and DON'T recommend it. Over the last year or so EVERYONE has been coming to Lincoln to die in the woods, mountains or rivers. Kids, adults, dogs...and most of them on MY SHIFT!!! WTF is up with THAT!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I've been seeing that on the news lately! The one about the boy was sad. That has to be tough to have to deal with that at work. I guess I won't attempt to climb Lafayette anytime soon! Hopefully the sun will be out the next time I go up there.

I know, it's hard. I had to deal with that all week and it was very hard on us. I went home the third night and cried. I knew that it wasn't looking good, because the chances of a slim little boy not dressed for the weather in October in northern NH making it more than two nights was highly unlikely. I have had to treat patients with mild to severe hypothermia, and hypothermia in cool to mild temperatures is almost worse than bitter temps.
