Trying Again....... long....

Hi Everyone.

Been MIA for some months now. Good to see some familiar faces around here. I have struggled for the months that I stopped posting on here and have managed to regain the few pounds I'd worked so hard to lose. So now I've got more to lose, ugh! Wow, that was hard to admit out loud.

A little history behind the last few months:

We made a decision about 3 months ago to relocate to AZ. after moving from there 2 years ago to be near my family in CA. With the cost of living constantly on the rise here it became very apparent that we were going to have a very rough road trying to make it here.

AZ was familiar and I loved it there so that was the decision we made. Telling my family was excruciatingly hard for me and they took it about as bad as I thought they would. It took me almost 2 months to get up the nerve to say it out loud to them. Needless to say, during all this time I turned to food for the comfort and safety and even more so after the reaction I got from parents and sisters. I know that it's wrong, wrong, wrong. I've no one to blame but myself and I've come to terms with it and am going to change this. My parents have offered nothing in the way of support emotionally. Not even taking into account that it was a very hard decision to make.In fact, my mom is convinced that I woke up one morning and just decided that it'd be fun to move again. Wha? All they can see is that we're taking the grandkids away. Dont they think we know this??? Anyways, I've come to the conclusion that I'm doing the best I can in doing what's right for our family and I can only hope one day they will understand. I'm hoping that since we won't be entirely too far away (6hrs by car, my dad doesnt fly) that they'll come for holidays or vice versa. Right now I need to take care of me and get this weight off or there won't be any holidays for me to partake in. LOL

I've decided, after much deliberating to go back to Atkins. I did Atkins last year for about 4 months and had lost close to 40 pounds. Of course I quit making myself a priority and it all went by the wayside obviously regaining the weight. Ugh. So now I'm moving on, no looking back at past mistakes. I will forge ahead in my new lifestyle and quit looking at it as a diet but as a way of life. Dh has informed me that he will join me again with Atkins-he did beautifully on this plan. Doing this plan makes me feel wonderful through and through with lots of energy and mental clarity.

Anyways.....sorry this is soooo long. If you've gotten this far, thank you. I really like this board with all the information and support it has to offer. This is why I came back here. I've adjusted my goal by about 20 pounds to see how it goes. Once I get there and I'm not comfortable I'll adjust again. So hear goes nothing.....

Hi Shawna! How'd I know you'd be the first to reply!? LOL. You look fabulous BTW! Great job! I was just reading about your vacation. Sounds like you got more than you bargained for with a sick kid and a hurt dh! Hope they are all well now.

This move to AZ is good for us financially and I actually think mentally for me. I love the heat and sun. I did well there weight wise because it was always so warm and sunny out. Looking forward to that again! Kids get out of school June 11 and we're leaving the 14th. You better believe the parental units were in a tizzy over that one too. We did not renew our lease on our apt. because they only offered 7,9 and 13 month leases. Our lease ended in March so obviously we needed to do month to month. Well with that month to month agreement we got a big ol' fat raise in our rent! Up to 2200 a month now. Not that paying 1940 was low, but still! My mom actually expected us to stay here til Aug. when the kids start school in AZ. because "they had plans" with the kids for the summer. WTF? We're supposed to shell out another 6k in rent so you can take my kids on vacation for 2 weeks outta that 3 months? Uh, no don't think so. My dad would be off for the summer(he's a teacher) but my mom does daycare and only gets 2 weeks off in July. So tell me where the logic is in this?! So I "suggested" that if she wants to take them on vaca' then they could come get the kids. All I got was a dirty look. She is going to make these last couple months painfully hard. I think perhaps the reason this has taken a toll so much on me is that I realized that what I'd really come "home" for was a relationship with my parents and sisters. Being the oldest of 4 girls and I'm 34 and the youngest is 14, we're quite spread out. The last couple years hasnt gone quite like how I'd expected. And with this move it seems that everything is heightened in sensitivity. I've always been the proverbial black sheep, never doing quite what was expected by my parents and doing what *I* wanted to do. Ugh, I could go on and on...LOL. I won't bore you!

Yes, you definitely have a very similar situation to me. Me? I would DIE in snowy weather.

Grew up in CA. and even this weather is somewhat "icky" to me compared to AZ desert. LOL

So glad to see you again. I'm due for some success and happiness.

And YES, I am VERY excited to be on plan again with direction! :)

hugs,

Danielle, welcome back! I'm sorry that you've been going through such a stressful time. Families can be a pain sometimes. I'm glad that you decided to do what's right for you. I know that they'll miss you, and you'll miss them, but it's important to do what you think is best for you and your immediate family.

There are a few others who are starting Atkins so you have a lot of company here! And don't worry, you'll lose the weight you gained in no time.

~~Linda

P.S. Since you moved to AZ, does that mean that you'll have to change your screen name? HAHA!

Hi Linda. I agree that now it's time I do what's right for me. They'll all hopefully come around soon. It seems like I've spent my life trying to be the good daughter in many ways and also a good dil but to no avail. So I'm going to just focus on me because it won't matter anyways, will it? LOL

I'm excited to see a few ladies here starting with Atkins. Even more excited to see some here have such terrific success with it and enjoying it.

It's wonderful to be back in a fold of wonderful support and friends.

Shawna, you're so funny. I wouldn't expect you to notice. There does seem to be alot of people in and out, doesn't there?

Yeah, shoulda seen me write out the check for April! I told DH he's in charge from now on cause it hurts too much! LOL. We bought a house brand new in AZ 2 years ago for 300k. 4000 sf, 5 bdrms, huge backyard, pool, everything. The median house price here is about 427k. Funny because you can barely buy a 2 bdrm condo here for around 350k. LOL. The building that's going on here is just jawdropping. Expensive, expensive, expensive. The pay is a bit higher but it still doesnt compensate for everything for sure. Just kills me tho', our mortgage payment in AZ was 1400 and we've been paying 1900 for an apt. here! OY!

Glad to be going back!

I understand the grandparent withdrawl. It will be hard for the kids but they at least get their grandma(dh's mom) who's in AZ already. Sort of a trade off,eh? LOL.

It's not so much my parents they'll miss, it'll be my youngest sister who's only 14. She's only 3 years older than my son so it's like having a big sister to play with. LOL

There are no cousins, as my 27 y/o sis hasnt had any yet, and my 22 y/o sis vows never to have any. We've got alot planned for the summer once we get there to keep them busy to make it an easier transition for them. My grandma lives in Flagstaff and my fave Aunt just moved there from N.J. this year so it will be good.

Yes I'm really glad to see some others starting Atkins as well. It's wonderful to see the girls who've had success so far. That's what's exciting to me, plus my own past success is what's motivating me. Thank gosh for journals as well. I read thru an old one during my Atkins days and man, I felt great! Looking for that again definitely!

What's this about not staying in socal and being poor like the rest of us?!?!? I so hear ya on the cost of living thing, if it wasn't for the fact that DH has his dream job I don't think we'd stay here either. I'm sorry your family gave you a hard time, but ya gotta do what's best for YOU and not them!

Take care of yourself and good luck with the Atkins, hang in there! You can do it!!

Hi Amanda.

I know, I know!!! Trust me, if I didn't have to worry about 3 mouths to feed I'd stay here! LOL. I just wish we'd done more looking into things before we'd moved here in the first place. That was a HUGE mistake on our part. Trying to ammend things just does not seem to appease the family. Oh well. Huh, you'd think they'd want the best for their grandchildren, huh? Well obviously its just what "they" want. Can't win everything can we? LOL.

I love Arizona period. It's beautiful and sunny. The sunsets are to die for! Not exactly a sacrafice for me in alot of aspects. :) I'm more the heat/sun kinda girl. So it's perfect. Dh grew up in AZ and my mil is there now, so it all washes nicely. Swapping one family for another so to speak!
