OT: What are they THINKING?

Okay, so I posted an ad in the newspaper for part time childcare for my son. The mutants are crawling out of the woodwork. Today I had three people inform me that they "babysatted" for someone's kids when I asked about experience. And to take the cake, some woman called me at SIX a.m. this morning! WTF?! When I am asking for care of an infant, how could they think this was okay. Then she calls back later to tell me that she will babysit for free if she can move in with us. UMMMMM....NO.

I am baffled.

Yikes! Sounds like that scene out of Mrs. Doubtfire ;-) Good child care is SO hard to find...I think it is because it is a job that doesn't require a great deal of education or training so some people who really aren't cut out for it will go for it anyway. Good luck to you - and be very, very picky! Personally, (don't know if this is an option for you) I try to approach people that I know or that have been recommended, rather than putting out an ad- since that might attract all the wrong element.

'Babysatted'...is that like getting your dog 'spayded'???

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Poor grammar makes my gums bleed. Rampant incompetence is right up there too, but it causes rectal itching instead.

For those viewers at home who are now getting the visual, I am deeply sorry.

*Shudder* That's one of the main reasons I became a SAHM when my first little one was born. The mutants are easy to recognize; the ones that "look" normal, but when you check references you find something weird are the ones that scare the hell out of me. I do miss having a job outside the home (and that second paycheck was really nice), but it's been worth the struggle to be able to be a hands on mom and not have to worry about the mutants. As soon as the youngest is in school, though, I'll be going back to work.

Good luck with finding a caretaker for your little one. And, if they'll be taking care of your little one in your home, you might want to set up a video camera just to make sure the little one IS getting the best of care. It's always better to be safe than sorry.
