After yesterday's events, getting some heart warming messages from you guys, seeing how the board was shook to the core and how we might lose some members over this....I think its time we regroup.

Well said! There's not much I can add to this.

What I would like to say is this: We are human, we mess up. I'm not perfect, I've slipped too. Instead of ignoring them, I've posted back to/commented on churlish posts too. I think that what has happened illustrates perfectly the need to use the ignore button on those you feel are annoying. Doing otherwise makes things chaotic and feeds negativity.

Shoot, I have to deal with/have delt with enough negativity being a fat woman in America. Land of the (fat)free! At least that's what the media feeds us...

Hugs,

Deb

good post Shawna!

I think we need to get to the basics on supporting each other, i know there's been a few posts about needing to get back on track so maybe we can all just work on helping with that and it'll help ease the unease on here. Besides we need more exercisers, our participants are dwindling..lol

Sally,

You said you have been lurking for a long time now and know who pat is. If that is the case then you would realise some of the horrible things that have been said to/about Shawna. I truley believe that most people would react emotionaly to a verbal assult like that. Many can't "just let it go". Attacking back, calling/labeling names like "troll" and being rude are all normal human reactions. When this cycle contines over and over it becomes all too easy to be untrusting. It becomes easy to fly off on the simplest thing. Many of the post by those labeled as "troll" were simply unprovoked attacks with the intent to hurt and cause emotional pain. I said many not all.

As for demanding personal info from new posters, this is new news to me. I have read where many of the regulars have stated that those labeled as "troll" do not have any kind of profile. They were merely pointing out a pattern that those labeled as "trolls" have shown.

Forte10 was labeled as a "troll". Many of her post made my jaw drop in disbelief. Recently she has been a wealth of information. Good information can come from any source if one is willing to weed out all of the BS surrounding it. I would like to see Forte become an asset to this board.

As for Shawna apologizing, I dont agree with you. After all of the horrible things that were said to/about her, I don't believe she should. Most people can sit back and put themselves in her situation and can visualise themselves reacting very much in the same way she did. I believe her reactions and handeling of events was simply human nature.

As for the rest of the regulars I believe that they were compelled to come to the defense of someone that they care about. This is probably one of the noblest reactions that is simply human nature.

I think I understand your point of view that your post presented, but I do disagree with some of the points you made.

You said:

***(Pat, who was really successful career wise and diet wise)

What was it that Pat did/does? I remember hearing all about her cardiologist husband (hey, did you know Atkins was a cardiologist?? Yeah, baby!) but I don't recall hearing what her career was/is. In fact, it sounded like she didn't work at all.

Curiouser and curiouser.

I shall concede that while we do *PROFILE* a bit to some newcomers here, if there seems to be reason to hold them with suspicion, we do. That is because people who make posts that are pious, rude, indifferent and refuse to share anything about themselves with the exception of how freaking wonderful they are, I believe that they have something to hide.

People who are open and share are generally trusted alot quicker and welcomed than someone who witholds things for NO GOOD REASON. I don't need to know your full name, how big a crap you took today, or how upset you were when your little brother flushed your goldfish down the can in '79. But don't swoop in like God's Gift to this board and speak of how 'you' just do 'your' own diet and can excercise w/out sweating and how perfect you are WITHOUT COUGHIN' UP SOME PROOF TO BACK IT UP. I am using a general 'you' here, not you personally. Competent, mature people don't act like the trolls do.

I am generally not a suspicious person by nature, but I know enough that if it LOOKS like poop and SMELLS like poop, it's poop. No need for advanced degrees in scatology to determine this.

And while I applaud Shawna's decision to be a bigger person and offer an apology, I hope it will not be recieved with smugness or an I-told-you-so attitude.
