Prayer for the battle

You know I have thought about this and I have noticed that perhaps it might actually be needed on here. First let me say that I am not isolating non believers at all. Ya'll are more than welcome to join in. With that said...

Why don't we pray for each other about losing the weight? I am looking at this as a battle to be waged and what better way to wage it but with God's promise to us.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Phil 4:13

We have so many hedges to jump in this new adventure we decided to begin and there are moments when we are going to need that little extra Divine support including the prayers from our sisters and brothers in Christ.

"Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong." 2 Corinthians 12:10

And what better way to beat this but call on His promises to us and remember who we are and that we can do anything.

"You are of God, children, and have overcome them, because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world." 1 John 4:4

So may I suggest that we start to pray away these pounds? we can have requests voiced and praises to celebrate.

Again, I am by no means trying to exclude anyone who is not a believer. I noticed on the Dante post that there are some of us who are believers and prayer is very important to our faith. God hears everyone of us and He answers every one of our prayers. Granted it could be a no, yes, or maybe but He does answer tham.

There's a book on the NYT best seller list which is a religious approach to dieting, if that sort of thing appeals to you. I can't recall the title, but if you check the list or go by most any bookstore you may want to take a look at it.

It's not my thing, really, and I don't look at it as any sort of "battle" to be won but just a matter of sensible eating and exercise. But to each his/her own, and if this helps you then great.

I would love to take part in any kind of on line prayer group with you all. I have as of a few weeks ago started praying for help with my own weight loss struggles. I feel like it is helping me to stay on course, and to feel closer to god. I just finished reading a book by lee strobel on"the case for faith" I had to resolve many issues regarding the claims of the bible that i had such a hard time accepting. this book really changed my thinking. it is written by a journalist who was a atheist whe original went seeking through journalist investigation techniques to disprove christ as the messiah. His first book was "the case for christ" anyway he investigates all the stories, and alternative atheist theories. in the end he concludes the evidence that is document by archeology, and historical documents supports the belief of christ as the messia. he then becomes a believer. very cool book for someone like me who was plagued by doubt, in regards to jesus. I also wanted to add that I think for me prayer helps me enter a meditative state, helpng reduce my stress and helping me to deal better with my emotional eating episodes. I think non believers may be more comfortable looking at it like a meditation exercise. instead of direct prayer to a particular diety. god bless, jen

I need to start reading those. I have skimmed through them and I am excited about how they were writte. I have one about Grace. I need to get the title for you. You might enjoy that one as well.

well, studies have shown that church and prayer make a healthier life.

" A cheerful look brings joy to the heart and good news gives health to the bones"

--Proverbs 15:30

I am very interested in the Bible study Sharla was talking about as well.

Well ladies tomorrow I think I am going to post a prayer dealing with requests. So ya'll send those in. It's a win win situation if you think about it. Nothing to lose if God isn't there and everything to win if He is.

Well, I'm definitely a believer - but I'm Wiccan! Does that count? ;-)

If you can handle the fact that the vast majority is going to be God and Christ centered, sure no problem.

I may not agree with what that belief system is but who am I to not pray for another. Besides God calls us to love our neighbors as ourself and not to judge non believers (Christian). Consider it done.

My Lord and Savior is big enough

God centered is fine. I believe in God. All Wiccans do.

Praise Him !

I haven't posted for a while but I know the power of prayer works.

I have been doing so well the last week and I know it's because of God.

I walked a mile for the first time in months and I was in such pain... I prayed all the way home I wanted to give up so badly... But God spoke a word to me and keep me going and the next day when I was telling myself no more I will not take my walk , I got me to do it again.

Got room for a Recovering Catholic Jewish Pagan Chocaholic ? (and how many more are out there?)

I think the gist of what this whole prayer thread is, is unity, love, and support.

And if you belive we were made in God's image, and all things are done through him, then all things are done through OURSELVES.

Great idea, Karrie, and thank you !

Sharkey kisses to YOU, Sharkey FARTS to someone else. Pah !
