I was wondering if anyone has any information on Weight Loss Supplements like Trim Spa, Xenderine EFX, Hydroxycut, Green Tea, or anything? Everytime you turn on the tv or look through magazines, there is an ad for one. I am very skeptical about these products - just wondering what everyone thinks?

Mel has tried some supplements in the past. I do my best to talk her out of taking/buying them. I just dont trust them. Of course her mind set is "it might just work for me". I just dont want to see something bad happen to her, or see her dissapointed cause it didnt work.

My best advice is to find as much research as you can before trying a supplement. Weigh the pros and cons and weigh the risk. Remember these are just my opionions. Am I to cautious?

I avoid most of them - especially anything with Ephedrine or other stimulants - but I DO take Green Tea. All the research indicates that it is perfectly safe, and has a real (albeit small) effect on metabolism. It is even included in a few multivitamins nowadays!

No, you're not too cautious. Diet supplements (and vitamins) have not been evaluated by the FDA, so there is no way of knowing whether the supplement or herbal medication will actually work, or worse, if it has dangerous side effects or is contraindicated with some medications or health conditions.

I've never taken any weight loss supplements. I guess I just don't trust them. It seems like they're always finding things wrong with supplements, and pulling them off the shelves. I do take a multivitamin and a calcium supplement, but that's all. If you do decide that you want to try taking a supplement, I would suggest doing some research, and maybe talking to your doctor about it. He or she should be able to give you some advice on what to do. I also think that it's always a good idea to have the doctor check you out beforehand. There are probably side effects, and if you have high blood pressure or are taking any medications, a supplement could complicate things. Good luck with whatever you decide :-)

i think stay away, from exerience personal and from what i've heard from others. If you do happen to lose when you stop taking you gain it plus some back.

I wouldn't do it, not ever under any circumstances. Dateline or Brokov (or both) are dealing with the subject this week; how those things are unregulated, and some could even kill you. Diet supplements serve no useful purpose IMO.
