I am thinking of using bottled water for the baby’s formula and stuff….. And thought about starting to stock up by getting a jug here and there… now I know that they have the baby bottled water but its over twice as expensive so that leaves with distilled…. Drinking.. Or spring…. Distilled I know is supposed to be more sterile but im lost on what I should be buying…. Boiling water is such a pain in the behind…. Hehe so does anyone have any takes on bottled water they can share with me? whats better?

You should probably check with your pediatrician before you start buying bottled water. In our area the pediatrician said that boiling water wasn't necessary at all and that bottled water (often) doesn't contain floride so you would need to suppliment it with additional floride.

Hey Des..I just have to ask - is your tap water really bad, or id there a water ban in effect ? Maybe go for a water purification filter to put on your tap. It will be less expensive in the long run, too. I wouldn't use distilled water on a neonate/infant because distilled water has the potential to leach certain minerals out of your body, mostly toxic metals, and I'm not sure if it will do the same to essential minerals that come from metallic sources. I think plain spring water would be fine, as long as you were sure of the source. A friend of mine and her young choldren gather water from an actual spring that has a source open to the public on the side of the road in the woods and the water is WONDERFUL. Her kids are fine, too. No one has gills or dysentry or anything like that. Maybe ask your OB, too. Good luck !

Hey Des, don't take this the wrong way, but are you going to breastfeed? I'm sure you know all the benefits for the baby, but it's great for you, too--you won't have to hassle with bottles and tap water, it's more affordable than formula, and best of all, breastfeeding can burn 500 calories a day. :-) Otherwise, check with your pediatrician. Congrats on the new baby!

Des, I bought drinking water for my boys or distilled. Also, check with your water company before using boiled tap water. Our water is high in nitrates, which effect brain development, and boiling actually increases them. The city doesn't recommend using it for any child under three. When I bought my water I just bought the cheap gallon jugs at Walmart. Good Luck to You! Brenda
