Night-time eating

Good morning everyone - I hope everyone is doing well today. I have a question and I hope you guys will have some suggestions. One of my biggest problems is nighttime eating. After dinner, I just can't seem to be able to get rid of the "hunger" feeling (even though I don't think it really is real, it's just in my head). It's terrible, it's like I've been busy all day and then I just sorta stop and watch tv and then the feeling comes and sometimes I just can't resist it. I know it's bad to eat after like 8pm - any suggestions?

Well, Pamella... I have something you may call a suggestion: maybe you can have some tea... I actually have the same problem. Last night I tried cooking... it also helps, u know? Ur in the kitchen, dealing with food, but not eating. (well... cook healthy food I should point out).

And, if watching TV makes you hungry... what I have always seen as an advise is: do something else ... but I know it's difficult.

Well... there's not much more I can think of at the moment. :) Hope it helps a little.

Me too, sister ! Celery, celery, celrey. And water. Or fat free microwave popcorn. They are both 'chew' food and the chewing helps tell your body that you are eating something satisfying. Anyway, with either, have lots of water. I find that really helps!

Good luck !

I think this is such a common problem for most women, we go, go, go, all day. At night we sometimes feel we want to pamper ourselfs a little. If you are truly still hungry, then id try to find something low fat and high fiber to fill you up. Kashi lean cereal is high fiber, coupled with fat free milk, its only 230 cal. naturally sweetened, so it helps with the sweet tooth. if your not hungry but just restless, then maybe try journaling in a notebook, taking a long bath, while giving yourself a little facial. sometimes heavy scented beauty products actually help me feel satisfied an relaxed. . jen

I have the same problem! A few have already suggested having a low calorie snack to get you through, and I agree. Another suggestion would be to brush your teeth. Sometimes if you brush your teeth, you won't be as inclined to eat something afterwards. Hope this helps!

And Amy, I'm not sure about drinking a lot of water late at night. At least not for me. I'd be up at least six times during the night to pee if I did that lol!

A couple:

(1) Do something in the evening which is incompatible with eating. I'm not on Dr. Phil, but he makes a very good point about that very thing. For instance, a long hot bubble bath is incompatible with eating ice cream (we normally don't eat ice cream in a steamy bathroom), so is taking a long walk and enjoying the sunset (it's hard to eat a plate of chocolate cake and walk at the same time). So if you ***know*** that you are inclined to binge at night after a meal, then at some other **quiet** time, make a list for yourself of activities you could engage in instead, and then when those hunger pangs hit at night....well, refer to that list and pick one, or two...

(2) Another thing, my idea. I meal plan. I have a little notebook and I plan what my meals will be, writing down calories and fat grams. When those meals are done, I'm done. It's like a bank book: when the balance is used up, the account is closed. Just a discipline thing.

3. Another thing, my idea. I've written about cookbooks, new ideas (whereever you can get them). Sometimes it's not ***food*** we're really hungry for, so much as it's food that satisfies the senses, all our senses. Pick up some new ideas for meals, something that excites you for dinner, and after you eat it then maybe you'll just be tremendously satisfied. It works for me!

Good luck, and good questions there.

Nice knowing you, Forte.

I have 2 things that work for me. The first is drinking a cup of hot tea. I know it sounds wierd, but for some reason it works. The second is find something to do with your hands. I quilt and scrapbook. I get preoccupied so I don't think about food. I also won't eat because I am too afraid of spilling something on my work. Exercise also works with me to keep my mind off of food. sharla

I hear you about the peeing. I pee 150 times a day, I swear. Maybe that's how the weight is coming off. I can't get far enough away from the bathroom to eat anything!

Amy, who wants to know how do you know when sharks pee ?
