I am going to respectfully disagree with that statement.
WE ARE ALL SUCCESSES!! We made a goal and we started down that path to it. Making a goal and taking the steps to it is a SUCCESS.
Realizing that there needs to be something to change is a SUCCESS.
Realizing that you a person who deserves a life full of joy, laughter, hope, and yes even bumps in the road is a SUCCESS.
I may not be at goal weight. I may not be 140 pounds. I may never get there but I AM A SUCCESS. I won't allow anyone to even try and tell me I am not a success. Success is loving who you are no matter what size you are.
I am going to say this once more, you have to love who you are on the inside first and foremost before you can even change the outer appearance.
Jumping off my soapbox.
I wish I could say the words that would make you feel 100% better. I can say that you can do this.
So many people have come back from the edge and have made a victory, for the lack of a better word, out of chaos.
All I can offer is encouragment and a reminder that you are a person who is worthy of so much.
I have always said this and this is something that I keep in my heart continually
"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalm 139:14
In otherwords, God don't make ugly.
I don't know if you share my beliefs in this but it has always encouraged me to realize that I am wonderfully made in His sight and that I was made in His image.
You can do this. Nothing can stop you from doing this. No one can stop you from doing this.
" A cheerful look brings joy to the heart and good news gives health to the bones"
--Proverbs 15:30

I can offer what ever advice I have in my walking dictionary of being a girl.
Hate to say that...I'm such a girl!! And being Texan/Southner well hello not like I go anywhere without looking somewhat put together.
Ya'll, I have even mastered looking put together without makeup. Took me to 32 to do figure it out but I did it.
Well, as you can see, there is a lot of support to be had here! Welcome to the board.
I agree with everyone...it sounds like you are making positive steps toward a do-able goal. The hardest part is changing your mindset...you have to believe you can do this and have faith and confidence in yourself. Even if you don't believe it at first, start telling yourself you're worth this and that you are beautiful. It sounds really cheesey but it works (at least for me). If you hear it long enough eventually, you'll believe it...it's true for negative as well as positive.
Also, for hair and make-up...a lot of salons/spas will do make-up and hair consultations for fairly inexpensive.
We are all here to support you...don't forget that!
Hugs!

I'm so glad I didn't listen to myself.
One day in October (my favorite month BTW--fall foliage!), I decided to give it one last effort. So, I ruthlessly cut out all junk food, white bread, white sugar, pizza, and spagetti. Pizza and spagetti are BIG TIME trigger foods for me. I started to lose weight. I lost about 20 lbs by Christmas and knew it was time to incorporate exercise. I started off with Denise Austin's Fat Burning Blast. It's two 20 minute workouts on one tape. At first, I could barely finish the first workout. After about a month, I was doing both workouts 3 times a week--again, barely finishing, but doing it.
Now I workout quite a bit more (see my exercise minutes under the weekly EXERCISE MINUTES that are posted on this board).
My advice to you:
1) If you are ready, try to find an eating plan that works for you. it can be Atkins, South Beach, Weight watchers, or something that is uniquly yours. Mine is defintely my own creation. It's a blend of no refined carbs, low "bad" fat, and calorie counting.
2) Get some exercise. But PLEASE go easy at first. If it hurts, SLOW DOWN. I've heard alot of ladies here like the Leslie Sansone's Walk Off The Pounds. Denise Austin has a Fit and Lite tape that might be worth a try. Richard Simmions original "sweatin' to the oldies" is great. (my copy was eaten by an evil VCR).
3) Get support. It could be TOPS or OA or even just this board. It's great to come here. And it's open 24 hours a day!
Hugs to you! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Welcome! I'm glad you came here. The people here are wonderful and you will definitely find the support and encouragement you're looking for here.
Everyone's right. You're already moving in the right direction to improve your health and your life. It's a long road ahead for sure, but take it one step at a time, and you'll reach your goals. It's amazing what can be done when you put your mind to it. If you can only walk for 5 minutes in the beginning, that's ok. Just do what you can and in no time you'll be surprised what you can do.
I really encourage you to visit here as often as you can. I find that by coming here every day, even if I don't post, I really stay motivated to keep going. You will get some great advice, a shoulder to cry on, and even a few laughs.
Good luck and I hope to see more of your posts :-)

I'm sorry you're having such a tough time of it right now. Battling weight and depression is one of the most difficult things a person can do! (My shrink says so...)I'm so glad you're reaching out for support. This board can be very helpful for motivation, ideas or just cheerleading if you need it! I have about 120 lbs. left to lose myself and I am doing my very best to take it a day at a time.
I agree with forte10 that you must begin to take charge of your health. I think that we (all of us) need to start taking care of ourselves just like we would take care of someone we loved very much. Trying to do just one healthy thing for yourself every day will make a positive difference.
I do not agree that makeup and lovers have to be lower on your priority list though! Anything that gives your self-esteem a boost is a plus for weight loss! Try a new hair color, paint your fingernails or smile at someone you find attractive! The better you feel about yourself, the easier it is to take care or yourself and to attract others to you.
Ok, I've yammered on enough. I'm here for you anytime you want to talk!
Hugs, Faith
As for make-up it takes awhile to get the knack of it and find what works for you. Some days i wear none, others just mascara and lipstick, when i go out with friends i tend to go all out-mascara,foundation,eye shadow, lipstick, blush. You may want to just try different things out or get a consulation. I also like wearing light perfume or body spray's. It just makes me feel more feminine at times.
Good Luck!
