Hello. My name is Tennille and I a 28-year-old female living in Michigan. I am engaged with 3 kids, one set of 6-year-twins, boy and girl, and one 3 1/2 month old girl. I have fought with my weight since I was 6-years-old. In 1995 I went from 215 lbs. to 165 lbs. and felt great, but I screwed up and gained it back and it's only gotten worse since then. I weighed 211 lbs. when I got pregnant for my twins. I was 232 after they were born, but in just 6 months' time I went to 312. The dr. checked my thyroid and said it's fine. In 2001 I went down to 242 lbs., but then I got pregnant and had a miscarriage in Sept. 2003 and then just a few months after that I was at 332. I got pregnant for my daughter in April 2003 and the pregnany went through. I had a lot of morning sickness and went from 332 to 297. But then, now that Felicity is born, I am over 300 again. I have no idea what I actually weigh because I don't have a scale. On Easter I tried to use my grandma's scale, but it's digital and I got an error message, meaning I am definately over 300 lbs. My back hurts all the time now and so do my legs. I have ZERO energy. I just sleep all the time now. I know what I need to do, eat one helping 3 times a day, no snacks, no greasy foods, no sugar, and walk at least 20 minutes a day, everyday, but I can't seem to get myself to start doing it. I need help. :(

Hi Tennille...welcome to the board!

Girl, I don't know how you *could* have energy with six year old twins and a young baby! That's a lot of energy just to keep up with them I bet! I have trouble keeping up with my *one* daughter (she's almost 4)...

It sounds like you know what you need to do but are having trouble getting started...and you know, sometimes it's worth looking at timing...you just had a baby and you're getting married soon...that's a lot of major changes in your life all at once. I'm not saying you should put off losing weight but just realize that it is another major life change to add to the list so it's very natural that it would be hard to start. So don't beat yourself up too much, okay?? ;o)

I am doing the Atkins plan...and I've lost about 75 pounds so far and I feel great. I feel sexy again!

Anyway, come up with a solid plan...that's what I need or else I make up rules as I go and then I get into trouble...lol. And good golly, woman, take some time for yourself if you can get it...that's a lot of work taking care of kiddos! :o)

Hugs...and nice to meet you!

Sarah

Well, the motivation part really has to come from within. No one can do that for you. But you're right about *knowing* what to do, and now what you need to do is build yourself a plan for getting it done. How about starting today with a list of 3 things you could do to help yourself along. Maybe that would be (1) drink 8 glasses of water, (2) walk 20 minutes, (3) eat three healthy meals and leave a little on the plate for each. Or build your own list. Then follow through with your commitment, do it again tomorrow and the day after etc etc, and maybe add another thing to your list every day. The goal is within your grasp, but you just have to reach for it. You can do it, of course. So just do it. And good luck.

Hi and welcome! I know that starting a weight loss journey can be overwhelming when you have a lot to lose. Believe me, I know! You know all the right things to do, but you know as well as I do that it's not as easy as saying "just do it". If it were that easy, then we wouldn't have a weight problem, would we? Since it can all be so overwhelming thinking of all the changes that need to be made to lose weight and keep it off, I suggest maybe starting by just making a few small changes and see how that goes. Sometimes when we try to change too much, we get so overwhelmed that it's easy to give up. At least that's the way it is for me. So I've just tried making small changes like eating more fruits and vegetables, getting in more exercise, and drinking more water. When I feel that I have those changes down, then I add another change like watching portion sizes or cutting out a trigger food (for me it's sweets). Habits take time to change, so taking them one (or a few) at a time might help keep it from being so overwhelming. Of course this approach doesn't work for everyone, but it's worked for me (I've lost 22.5 pounds since January)and it might be something to think about. Plus, any change is better than no change at all, so anything that can be done to put you in the right direction is a positive thing.

Good luck!

Welcome to the board, Tennille!!

Wow, you are going through a lot of changes in your life right now. I, personally, would focus on either eating healthy OR exercising. When you feel you can do both, introduce the other one.

I've been a big diet jumper since the beginning of this year, nothing really fit into my lifestyle or it didn't work for me. Now I'm doing Weight Watchers. I'm focusing on my healthy eating right now because that's my downfall. I'll focus on exercise later. I exercise everyday anyways by taking my daughter outside.

Baby steps...

Hop on and I hope we're the support you're in need of!

"Have you decided what plan you'll be following?"

In 1995 I went from 215 to 165 by eating one sensible helping 3 times a day, nothing in between, no greasy things, no sweets. It worked really well. If I got hungry in the evening I would split a bag of lite microwave popcorn with my brother. I was also riding the excercise bike 20 minutes everyday, but if I can start with the good eating first I can add excercise later. That's a good idea.
