I live in Western Washington State and I was driving to my sister's house the other day and saw Mt Rainier in all its glory and do you know what I thought?? I thought, "I should climb that" !!!!
What?? I have NEVER had any desire to climb a mountain...but for some reason, I do now. maybe because I feel like I could do anything right now?? I don't know. But it really seems like something I could do one day in the not so distant future. In fact, I am looking in to what I need to do to train for a climb like that...and there's a 50 mile hike I'd like to do around the base of another local mountain. One day, one day...lol
I just feel really empowered lately and climbing a 14,000+ foot peak seems not so impossible...lol. I thnk I'm going mad...rofl.
It's just strange to me that I thought that and didn't say, "you're crazy. You can't do that"...I guess my self-confidence is back! :o) woo hoo!
So anyone else have these kinds of thoughts or aspirations??

Is there anything you can do to help the shin pain??? Strengthening those anterior muscles perhaps (the Anterior Tibialis is one to look at I think)???
I hope you'll be able to do it! I know you will!! :o)

I have been in shorts for about 2 months now and I won't put on a pair of heavy jeans until october.
You live in such a beautiful part of the country! I've only been out there once, but Mt. Rainier was gorgeous. I couldn't believe that there was still like 10 feet of snow on it in July! When I was there, there were people in shorts (since it was in the 70's) playing in the snow. I never saw anything like it.
And Mt. St. Helens was awe inspiring. I had no idea that the devastation was so widespread. It was so weird driving up the road in lush forest, then we turned a corner and all of a sudden all we saw were the skeletal remains of all the trees that were destroyed in the eruption. It was such an eerie feeling! I can't wait to go back to Washington again someday.
And I know you'll climb Mt. Rainier if you put your mind to it. I say go for it (when you feel like you're ready of course). What a great goal!

The St. Helens devastation is amazing isn't it? It's getting greener and greener but there are still areas that are just completely barren. You can't really realize just how huge that eruption/explosion was until you see it first hand. We're coming up on the 24th anniversary here on May 18. Check out these before/after shots...it's just amazing: http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/mshnvm/digital-gallery/before-after.html
