Yesterday was my son's 16th birthday. He got his drivers license. He is driving a car around in the great big, cruel world right this very minute! I want to eat the rest of the birthday cake...it will make me feel better... I haven't yet, but I WANT to!

Karrie,

How about a low calorie, low fat, high taste version of that (usually stale) Baskin-Robbins cake. Can you figure out how to make **that** by Friday? Betcha can, with a little planning. And healthier, guilt free too.

Well, you're right about that. Food is only *food* after all.

Forte,

How about if I enjoy myself? I happen to like that. GASP - I am losing weight and inches as well as exercising on a daily basis as well as eating what I want when I want it.

So how about for my birthday if I have a cake I have loved since childhood and still maintian my healthy eating and continued weight lose?

OH and I won't feel guilt at all. I think that would be prefect way to end the butternut squash ravaolli in sage butter that I am also planning to have at my dinner before I sit for 3 hours and watch Puccini.

Anyone want to join me?

Can I skip the opera and have a banana split instead of the chocolate mint cake? If so, I will celebrate with you in absentia :) Happy early birthday---eat, drink and be as merry as one can be at an opera KSAS

Eat whatever you want to eat, and if you want to eat Baskin Robbins ice-cream cake, then that's a choice you make. But, as with all choices, there are consequences. A slice of their cake every once in a while won't do you any harm, but you should be careful to eat a healthy diet. Why? Because the food you eat affects your *mental functioning, *emotional well-being, *energy, *strength, *weight, *future health. Then too, if a woman is trying to lose weight, eating a baskin-robbins ice cream cake keeps her farther from her goal, not closer to it. It's pointless, don't you think so, for any person to say she's dieting and then self-sabotage herself with baskin-robbins ice cream cake. And especially so, when there are other alternatives which not only taste BETTER, are FRESHER, but are healthier to boot. Call me crazy, but I just don't believe in shooting myself in the foot. And that's what eating an ice-cream cake is, when the **goal** is (in theory at least) to lose weight and get healthy.

Never mentioned "low-fat, chalk dust salad." Not only can dessert be decadent (while being low calorie, and healthy), but so can salad....come to think of it. It's all in knowing how, zorbslovessporks.....it's all in the knowing how. (Nothing *special* about Ben and Jerry's anyway....it's just cheap ice cream at a high price). I have better, healthier and tastier choices than Ben and Jerrys (ugh).

And there lies your problem...you think this is going to hurt my goal. Far from it. Anyone is allowed to indulge once in a blue moon. And I believe you said on the other post in moderation. One slice of ice cream cake or cake in general is not going to harm me at all. I will still maintian my weight, my blood levels will all stay the same and gasp my own desire to contiue with what I am doing will be the same.

Unlike and I am assuming you, I can control my intake of foods that aren't exactly diet foods. ALso, just because you are a party pooper and you do not like ice cream cakes, there are some of us who can't find a better tasting treat.

food is meant to be enjoyed which also includes the yummy things like ice cream and cake.

Forte,

Did you see the recipe for Mississippi Mud Pie, at a fraction of the calories and fat, on the food channel this weekend? We made it last night, and I'm here to tell you that was GREAT! Same program, the un-fried pork chop again at a fraction of the calories. I'm so glad you turned me onto that channel. You're absolutely right about the food thing, and I would think people would use this time (some trying to drop huge amounts of weight) to learn some new eating habits, and some new cooking skills, instead of all this talk about binging on ice cream cakes. It makes no sense, but then it does seldom. Anyway, if you didn't catch those recipes let me know and I'll pass them along. When I asked for recipes from you earlier, it was really just because you had already pointed me in the right direction and I'm having so much fun with it. I took a cooking class (freebie) at a kitchen store on Friday and not only was it great fun and very informative, but I walked away with a treasure trove of new healthy eating tips and recipes. Thanks for that suggestion also. And how are you this fine day?

I believe she already said, occasionally eating less than healthy foods isn't the problem, but frequent splurging may be an obstacle. And when a person is trying to lose weight and get healthy, she may want to consider healthier birthday cake choices. There are so many, many out there. But she said, eat whatever turns you on. If you want Baskin Robbins, it's your life so enjoy it, but then don't plead dieters remorse. Whatever you want to do, just do. ....But have you considered, some of the other choices out there? Nevermind, nevermind....enjoy your choice to eat Baskin Robbins!! Is this really a big issue? I don't think so!
