As long as you have a working plan in place to lose the weight, succeeding is going to open so many opportunities for you! I KNOW that.
I don't know much about Irish step-dancing or horseback riding, but I know it's possible when you're older, and once you lose the weight there is NO reason you couldn't pursue them. I'm not saying you should plan on becoming a professional jockey or expect to Riverdance with Flatley, but there's NOTHING that can stop you from learning to stepdance or riding horseback. You may not be a Baiul or Boitano, but ice skating is fun for the average person too! (I prefer sledding- I end up on my butt when I try either, but at least sledding you started out on your butt too!).
I have several things I want to do when I reach my goal weight. If someone told me it was foolish for any reason, with the possible exception of wondering why I'd want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane, I'd tell them to suck an egg. Or something more colorful, depending on the person.
The women on this board believe in you, even if other people do not. YOU have to believe in you, too. One day at a time, you will achieve your goal. Don't give yourself any option other than success, and that's what you'll get.
And NEVER give up on a dream. Hope is far too precious to be dealt with lightly.
You are absolutely NOT an idiot! You can do anything that you put your mind to. It won't be easy and it will be discouraging at times but if you stick with it you'll feel so much better.
Set small goals for yourself. You live in a beautiful area of the country. Start small by taking little walks and build up your endurance. You should probably check with your doctor first, before beginning your journey.
You'll find lots of support on this board. I wish you the best of luck.
Sweetie, if you cannot dream it, you can not do it. Dream alot about what you will do with the incremental weight dropping. What are you doing when you get to 350? What is it going to feel like at 300 lbs? Will you begin aerobic training for the river dancing you will do?
It seems like some fo the things we have in common, talking about us who are this overweight, is that someone has verbally slapped us, and we took it to the marrow, and ate with the pain not dulling.
You dream and dream big. One thing I remember is I remember saying in myself "Oh my God, I am almost 250 lbs!" Then I was. Another time, "Man, I am almost 300 lbs!", and here 'tis....
The power of suggestion in our inner thoughts is huge. So, make this work for you!
Tell that thing your ex told you about the clydesdales to shut up and never play again in your head or heart. He is wrong. You dance, you sing, you do whatever you want! Dede
I agree with what everyone has said so far...just wanted to add...
I remember you saying in your introductory post that you didn't want to end up like your parents. Do not be content to sit and watch life go by from the "rocking chair". Go out and do stuff!
I teach piano and I have an adult student who says that people were laughing at her when she started taking lessons this past winter. I say tell them to SHOVE IT!
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! You are not an idiot for wanting to do those things! I think that's one of the best things about losing the weight!! You feel younger and therefore I think you are *entitled* to act younger!
And besides, what's age, besides a number?? And who decides what "acting your age" is anyway??
I think you've already taken the first step to better health, wanting to live. Dreaming about wanting to dance and skate what your really doing is saying I want to live life, have fun. Your age should have nothing to do with your losing weight. I think at any age losing weight is in your head. We all have the ice cream demons running through our brains but you need to be strong and rely on those dreams of dancing and skating. Don't let negative people dictate your life. You can do anything you want.
If you can dream it, you can do it, plain and simple. My grandmother is 75 or 76, recently drove her RV to Alaska from Pennsylvania AND BACK again. She rides motorcycle. She goes to Curves and TOPS to lose weight/stay in shape. She quilts, she paints, she builds fence for horse pasture, she has a most elaborate garden, she keeps her three grown sons in line, and all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well.
That being said, she is 20 years older than you. You gotta lot of living to do, girl, and it's up to you to decide HOW you are going to live it. I say go for it! Start with small steps and build on them until you get there!
