It depends on where you live, and what you're use to. Not a big deal: pop, soda, coke and/or tennis shoes, sneakers, gym shoes, etcetcetc. "What's in a name," after all.
That reminds me of when I moved from Michigan to Atlanta GA after I was married. I soon got a job as a server in a nice restaurant and since I'd done that kind of work before, I was sure I knew my job...LOL The gentleman at my very first table asked my what kind of "cokes" we had. I said "diet and regular"...He smiled and said "No honey, I mean what kind of soda do y'all have?" I said "Club?". I'd only ever called sodapop "POP"! He was very kind and explained it to me, but I felt like a real Yankee...:)
lol! I was raised in MI for the most part, by a woman whose family was from West Virginia. I think I always heard both pop and soda, but soda just fit into my vocab better. Of course, I was also taught that you warsh yourself in the tub, and you put your clothes away in dresser draws, among other things. ;-)
