"Just 2 feet and a will to get it done"? Oh Please! Even for you that is too much. You're getting a little out there HIPPOlytes. Better watch out, people might start to think you're a little crazy!
I've lived in Texas and other areas of the south, as well as PA and NY...
I will always call them sneakers, and I have Spauldings- very comfy and versatile.
Everything is a coke, and then you differentiate. Diet Dr. Pepper is good, and if you are really from Texas the ultimate snack is Dr. Pepper and fritos!!
That link I clicked on...looked like the woman from that movie 'Total Recall' where she is in an airport and her head opens up with Arnold Schwarzenneger inside...then it explodes...
Please feel free to go rock climbing in stilettos, then.
Any kind of physical activity is deemed safer and more comfortable with a pair of sturdy, supportive shoes. I have seen people do step aerobics barefoot, which is fine, but one should not go hiking in a pair of Keds canvas slip ons. That is ASKING for injury.
I am not saying you need an expensive pair of athletic shoes for each individual activity (for instance, I use 'runing shoes' to both run AND walk in, even though these are two different forms of excersize and have different stress levels on certain parts of the feet.
You wouldn't do ballet in hiking boots, would you?
But hey, if farting around in the woods all day with the elves and Faeries is YOUR thing, go sans shoes (as to be quiet and still and not harm their delicate environment. Or Gaia forbid STEP ON ONE).

Walking shoes : Any comfy pair of running shoes, Nikes are my faves. New Balance second faves.
Riding : Hiking boots or sneakers....if it's serious, dressage boots.
