I think some dieters get too hung up on what shoes they are wearing, or what shoes they think they should be wearing, and then use it as an excuse **NOT** to exercise. I don't think it much matters, though. And Kathleen Daelemans, in her first book, said...."if you've got two feet, take a walk! Wear your heels, go barefoot. Who cares!" Exactly.
Well, she's bright enough to **actually** lose all the weight she started out to lose, **and** keep it off for 14 years. And she's bright enough to parlee it into a lucrative career for herself. I'd say **SHE'S** got it together.
You see, Shawna, Kathleen Daelemans is not into making excuses for herself, or accepting lame excuses others make for not reaching their goals. That's what she was writing about. If you want to exercise, you don't need to wait for fancy footware to do it. Just do it. And if you want to reach goal weight, it doesn't have to take forever to do that either. Just do it.
How do you measure "bright," Shawna?
And as far as a two mile walk barefoot goes, note the post about the athlete who ran the olympics (and always trains barefoot, BTW) barefoot. Some people do, while others make excuses. That's what Kathleen Daeleman's was referring to. It's not a matter of "wait until I get the right shoes," or "wait until I have the money, or the time, or whatever"....if you want to get fit.....you just get out there and do it! And it doesn't need to take forever to get around to doing it either.
Is that so hard to understand? You have a happy day now, hear!
Why do you think that people are making excuses not to exercise? I didn't see anything here that indicates ANYONE making excuses not to exercise. I have no clue what gave you that idea.
The vitriol just ***drips*** from your posts, really.
I can't help but notice that for someone who has lost a lot of weight you watch an awful lot of televison.
By the way, Erin, thanks for the recipes you emailed me! You should post them in the recipe section, really. I loved the *lighter than air frozen yogurt* I just popped it in my yogurt maker and then in my ice cream maker (which by the way is the best thing, thank you for recommending it to me. The best purchase ever, really). I can't imagine why anyone would eat store bought yogurt when it's **so** much easier and healthier to make it yourself, really.
"the athlete who ran the olympics (and always trains barefoot, BTW) barefoot"
Not since he died in 1973.
"It's not a matter of 'wait until I get the right shoes,'"
From where did you get such a silly idea ? Who here has been putting off starting an exercise program because she doesn't have the right shoes? Who here has said "I'm not exercising because I don't have the right shoes."?
"And if you want to reach goal weight, it doesn't have to take forever to do that either."
So how long should it take? Six months? One year? Two years? C'mon Forte, dispense your wisdom and tell us all what miserable, pathetic excuses for human beings we are for not "counting calories, journaling, watching cooking shows, making fat-free, low-calorie gourmet meals three times a day, and taking nature walks." Explain to us again why exactly a 90 pound weight loss in a year is failure. Explain to us why it is UNREASONABLE to lose less than 20 pounds a month.
"Just do it."
What are you, the spokeswoman for Nike? Thanks, but I'll find my inspiration elsewhere.
On the topic of proper footwear - I just can't keep quiet any longer. A person who is significantly overweight must NOT work out without proper arch support - it is extremely dangerous and can lead to crippling foot problems.I've been there, done that - and that was from flat shoes, not no shoes (which is even worse). Ask a podiatrist, and stop spewing idiotic nonsense. Sure, it might be fine for someone who isn't carrying a lot of excess weight - but most of us here ARE, and if some poor person who weighs 300 pounds takes your stupid advice they're likely to end up crippled. Have a lovely day, dear! :-) *kiss*
