Hi,

It's good to see you! I'm afraid it's near impossible to lose that much weight so quickly. That's 6 1/2 pounds a week. Most people are lucky to get 2 lb a week. Sometimes you lose a lot the first week of dieting, but it nearly always slows to one or a few pounds a week even if you follow your plan perfectly. If you managed to do it, you'd probably do some kind of damage to yourself.

You could put a good dent in the weight by then, but the goal is kind of unrealistic. This is generally a really supportive place and I hope to see lots of posts from you in the future!

Good luck with your weight loss!

Welcome Allena,

I agree that it isn't possible to lose that much weight by July 4, but if you eat healthy and exercise you could lose it by the time school starts in the fall. sharla

Hi Allena, and welcome! I'm sorry to say that I agree with the others that a 40 pound loss in that time would be almost impossible and also very unhealthy. I would hate to see you set yourself up with unrealistic expectations and then give up altogether. A better approach would be to set up a goal of about 2 pounds a week and go from there. You're young, so you should have an easier time of it than someone like me who's 39.

Have you talked to your doctor about a food or exercise plan? That's a good place to start. Also do a lot of reading and research. There's a lot of places to get good information out there. I know that Ivillage has a lot of good articles, maybe you can check those out.

Good luck and we're here for you :-)

welcome Allena it's not realistic to lose and keep off 40 lbs in less than 2 months but that doesn't mean not to change your eating and exercise habits and start losing so you can lose those 40 lbs. It's best to start young so start and you'll be at goal before you know it =) Good Luck!

Allena,

Just start counting calories but eating sensibly, and get a little exercise each day....and see where it takes you. There are no healthy quick fixes when it comes to diet, but you've gotta start somewhere (right?) and, who knows, it's a couple months away and if you don't hit the nail on the head, don't take off the entire 40 (but you might), at least you'll make a good stab at it! Good luck.
