Hi All. I'm new here. I went on a wonderful weekend getaway this weekend and I was so disappointed with what has happened to my health. My husband and I went for a walk on the trails and I was so exhausted. I used to be able to walk for hours. I'm not sure when I stopped paying attention to myself, but I can tell you when I got off that trail I knew it was time to take a look. I am ready to get my life back. No more staying inside. No more avoiding social events because I am afraid of people talking about the weight I've gained. I am hoping this site will be a place of support. If anyone has some words of advice for me on my first week I sure would appreciate it. I have 115 pounds to lose. It feels like such a long way to go. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Stac

Hey Stac! While that number does seem like alot, why not set small goals. Like 10 or 15 pounds at a time?

Do you know what plan you want to follow? Or are you just going to wing it? I'm sure you'll get lots of great advice. I followed WW for a bit but am now pregnant so it's all on hold.

Thinking it is the first step. You sound motivated and that's also part of the battle. And it is a battle. Take it a day at a time and know that you can do anything you set your mind to. Best of luck to you!

Sounds like you had your "aha" moment. Good for you! Welcome to the board, and good luck. My advice would be to not beat yourself up if it seems slow going here at first. If you eat something you know you shouldn't, then don't throw in the towel. Just say, "OK, that's cool, but I can do better." And then do it!

Stac:

Welcome! You have come to the right place for advice & support. I am also new here and these wonderful people have already helped me get started in the right direction. I too have about 100 lbs to lose and it does seem like alot but we should set small goals and then when we accomplish that goal we can set another one. My goal right now is to get to 250lbs. I started out at 290 and now weigh 270 so I'm getting closer. All of this weight just didn't happen overnight so I can't expect to lose it overnight.

Be patient and come up with a plan that will work for you and stick with it. Try to exercise and drink lots of water.

I think you've already accomplished the first step in weight loss by admitting that it's time - good luck!

Welcome Stac and congratulations on talking the first step towards a new life. My best advice is to get rid of all the bad food in the house. That way you won't be tempted. ALso take it day by day. Even if you mess up you can always start over the next. It sounds like you have a great attitude and lots of motivation. Welcome. sharla

Hi Stac, and welcome! I understand what you went through when you went for that walk and was out of breath. I was that way, too and couldn't enjoy going for walks and hikes like I used to. You've already gotten some great advice from the ladies here about eating. I'd like to focus on the exercise. I've been trying to eat healthier, but I've also been trying to get exercise at least 4-5 days a week. I would suggest starting out slowly, maybe just going for a 10 or 15 minute walk. Increase that as you feel yourself getting stronger. I started out that way a little more than 4 months ago, and last week we were on vacation and did A LOT of walking, and I never got tired from it. What a difference from a few months ago. Good luck and post often :-) There are a lot of good and helpful people here.

Hi Stac,

I'm also new to these boards and have found them very helpful. I guess knowing that there are alot of us out here that are struggling with the same problems. I think I read in one of the replies about those damn plastic resin chairs (I hate them)if your not scared of breaking them then it's how uncomfortable your butt feels coming out the sides. I have about 100lbs to lose and I think that any pound lost is better then gained. Set small goals for yourself and definately consider cleaning out your closet. I didn't clean out the cupboards because of my daughter but I haven't bought anything new and I told her when it's gone it's gone. There is always fresh fruit in the house.

Good luck sorry if I rambled on to much.

welcome to the board Stac =)

My advice would be to take a look at what you eat & drink and find good ways to change it for the better either in a plan, reducing portions, eating healthier. Also start with some kind of exercise anything from aerobics to walking around the block. And drink water. Also i'd do body measurements along with weighing in to be able to see the differences your body makes in inches when u can't see it yourself or on the scale.

Good Luck with starting, you can do this!
