Intro and "Hello!"

Well, I'm not sure if this is the proper place for a newbie intro, but here goes....

My name is Vikki(the spelling is thanks to my hippie parents, lol)and I'm 33 years old. I've been trying to lose weight off and on for the past 13 years and I've only gotten bigger and bigger. Now I've hit my highest weight, 310 lbs, YIKES! On top of that I've found out I have some of the typical obesity related health problems: high BP, high triglycerides, and elevated blood sugar(pre-diabetic). I recently switched to a new Family Practice M.D. because my regular one left Family Practice for Bariatric medicine, and then tried to get me onto Medifast. No offense to anyone on Medifast, but it is just not my personal idea of a realistic plan. I know that with my personal food issues, I need to begin an eating plan that can last the rest of my life.

Anyway, my new M.D. is suggesting a slow and steady change in my diet, as well as, regular excercise. At my current weight, my exercise routine is limited to walking 3 miles a day (1.5 in the a.m. and 1.5 in the p.m.). Hopefully as the weight comes off I will be able to vary my exercise more.

As you can tell by my intro, I don't have a history of sticking to a diet plan for long. I am sincerely hoping that this time will be the exception. That is why I'm here today. I believe that with support from others going through the same experiences, I can make it past the "speed bumps" that have thrown me off the weightloss road in the past.

I hope you have room on the board and in your hearts for one more!

Absolutely, Vikki ! ( hey, they've kept me around, why not ?)

Welcome to our spot ! Everyone one here is in the process of losing or lost 100 +, and there is great support here! CL's Divinetrash and Relydria are very nice, and we have a great cast of characters here !

I agree with you on the Medifast thing - slow, sensible and steady win the race. It took me 3 years to lop off over 100, so one day at a time, I guess. That's awesome that you are walking 3 miles a day...I wish I had the chutzpah to do it, too !

Thanks for stopping by to say hi !

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! It means a lot to know that this isn't a "one woman show" for me this time around.

Gigantic hugs for everyone!

Hi Vikki and welcome! I'm glad you found us. You sound like you're off to a good start and in it for the long haul. Congratulations for not trying to find the easy way out (Medifast). While it may work for some, you recognize that it won't work for you in the long run. I, too believe in finding a healthy eating plan that you can stick with for the rest of your life. Good luck and hope to see more of you here!

I think you take it nice and slow ... If you have not walked in a long time ... don't start off with big goals ... do a little at a time so your brain can get used to you walking and eating better.... I find that small changes go a long way

And then you can build up to bigger goals.

Even then you still have to fight!

Welcome! ;)
