Back strengthening exercises?

First, allow me to say "ouch!". I've been doing a lot of bending, stooping and carrying (yard work, housework) in the last few days and my lower back is really sore. I woke up this morning and could hardly straighten up ....and even though it got better after I sat for a bit with an ice pack, it was hurting when I tried to walk the dog. I seem to be rather susceptible to lower back strains - probably mainly due to the excess weight - and I'm wondering if anyone can suggest any simple strengthening exercises I can do? I saw an article the other day in "Woman's World" on lower-back exercises, but I don't think I'm going to be able to do THOSE moves for a good 50 pounds or so! I know I don't have any more serious problems with discs or anything - it's just regular over-use strain.

I find it disgusting that you could say something so blatantly hateful to another person, and then edit it in this manner. It appears, to me, that you're cowardly, in that you make posts you won't ultimately stand behind. I think it's pathetic, and I hope they remove you and your hatefulness from this board.

a few family members swear on going to a chiropactor, once a year or so, if you go be sure it's a good one a lot of them want you going once a week/month forever. I have been thinking of going since i sometimes get back aches.

hmm..i don't know what the rude message said it just says have a nice day or something like that so i guess i should be glad i missed it, i am curious though

After having back labor I always had lower back problems, I also was told to hold in the stomach, I keep forgetting that. Thanks for the reminder. I was also told to do deep breathing as I held in my stomach... helped the abs, I'm starting that once again tomorrow.
