How often do you weigh yourself?

Ever since I started dieting I'm obsessed with weighing myself! I weigh twice in the morning, and at least 3 or 4 times in the evening. It's a mental thing, it seems like it helps me to keep myself in check. Like if I eat more than I should, or eat something I really shouldn't, then I see the numbers go up a bit, and I'm more conscious of what I'm eating the rest of the day. Or if I was good, the numbers are where I want them to be and it gives me some encouragement. I'd really like to weigh myself only once a week but I can't stop!!

Wow, that is weighing yourself a lot. I have trouble with getting depressed if the scale goes up even a pound, so try to weigh only weekly. Your body can have such a natural fluctuation with fluids, etc., I would imagine you see a lot of different numbers during one day!

The most logical suggestion I ever heard was in the Carbohydrate Addicts diet. Weigh yourself once a day, every day, at the same time - and then at the end of the week take the AVERAGE - so add all 7 weights together and divide by 7. This takes into account daily fluctuations (you know, up one day because you're retaining water, and then unrealistically down the next) so you see a real over all pattern instead of letting the day-to-day thing get to you. I know a lot of plans say to weigh only once a week, but what if you weigh yourself on one of the 'heavy' days and then get discouraged? I really like the averages thing.

I weigh myself a lot, too. I have a morning weight and a nighttime weight that I check. I know it's probably not a good idea, but I'm like you. I guess I'm obsessed, too. I don't let it get me down, though if the number goes a little higher than before, since I know that it can fluctuate a lot. As long as it's going down over time, I'm happy. Just try not to let the obsession affect how you see yourself or how you feel about yourself. The number on the scale isn't the only thing that counts when losing weight. Measurements and how your clothes fit count, too. And they can change even when the scale doesn't. And try to celebrate other victories, like getting your exercise in or having a good eating day. All the little things add up to big losses over time.

Once a day, each morning.

I had never heard of doing it that way, but now that I think about it, that makes a lot of sense.

I have started weighing myself once a week in the morning on the advice of my M.D.

She said that would keep me sane. She also talked to me about how water weight gain and loss can affect the scale readings and how muscle weighs more than fat, yada, yada, yada. I'm sure you already know all that stuff so I won't go into it any further :)

You should weigh yourself as often as you want. Do what makes you feel comfortable and helps you reach your goal.

I weigh myself once in the morning at the very least. I often weigh myself again at night, for curiosity's sake. And on the days when I go to the gym, I weigh myself before my workout and after. That's mostly to see how much water I've sweated away and must replace.
