This weekend I had some of those low carb mission tortilla's. OK what do they put in those things? My tummy has been icky all weekend.

Has anyone else had problems with the GI tract and low carb stuff?

Hello,

Do you still have the nutrition label? Check to see if it has sugar alcohols in it. They use sugar alcohol to substitute for the sugar. I believe that sugar alcohol does not have an effect on insulin (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). It also causes stomach discomfort. I ate some of those sugar free Reese's Cup and it really messed me up. Now I try to stay away from products with high amounts of sugar alcohol. HTH!

I've had those tortillas but never had any tummy aches. I don't think there's anything in them that is strange. They were whole wheat and pretty low cal, so I don't know why they made you sick. I'm sorry your tummy hurt, though!

Thanks for the tip on the labels, Forte! I kind of saw these little boxes on the sides of food, but I never actually read them (you know, like the instructions for strapping in a carseat). I checked it out after your post and there is all kinds of stuff there! Calories, fat, even carbs! This is definitely going to help my weight loss.

Have a great day!

i know there is 8 grams of fiber in those dang things as well as a lot more protien.

i can't break certain things down due to IBS. i am going to see if sugar alcohol has an effect on IBS if it does i need to stay away from this stuff.

Hi Karrie -

I eat those all the time...and for the life of me can't remember if they have added soy protein in them. Soy makes me icky so I avoid it when possible.

Strangely enough, soy sauce and Miso don't do it to me. Maybe cause they are fermented, who knows.

Hope tum tum gets better !

it just tells me not to use the things that are made for the carb-less thingy going on

i can't break down certain protiens so soy in large amounts might be one of them.

i can drink soy milk but that's not very much.

i found it!!

people who have IBS need to stay away from sorbitol, which is a sugar alcohol used in those low carb products.

i can't digest it so it causes massive problems in my 15 (depending) feet of small intestine and 5 feet of the large intestine.

ok woaaaa....i just got those numbers off of health site....so that is 21 feet of crap we have to move daily

oh my goodness i need to sit down
