Hello! New and Scared...

Hello. My name is Lucy. I have a part time job, well, actually two..I have two children, and believe me, they are a job in themselves! I will be 35 this year and I am getting extremely frustrated. Ever since I had my daughter, I have been gaining weight at a speed I did not think was possible. I put on over 100 pounds in ten years !

Some days I feel so disgusted with myself and I don't know where to start. A really low point was when I went on vacation last year to Ireland and had the MOST uncomfortable plane ride. It was awful - the looks, the staring, and not fitting into that darn seat without a shoehorn!

I have tried various diets in the past and just can't seem to stick with it OR the working out. I was interested in the South Beach Diet, but want to investigate all diets before I commit to one.

So, here I am.

Lucy

Hi Lucy, my name is Stephanie. I started at 280 last June. Went on Atkins and did a great job until the holidays. Now I just play with the same 5 pounds. But I have lost 55 pounds so I know it can be done. Right now I am not really following any plan, just eating good and making better choices. Good luck to finding a plan that will work for you. :-) Stephanie 280/225/170

Welcome welcome, Lucy! As I can see by the posts before me, you have been informed that you share names with some pets here! I do have a rat named Lucy and she has a sister, Bella. I can definetly relate to gaining weight ...II gained 105 pounds after high school.

As far as diets here go, everyone kind of does one, or there own thing. I used to do Atkins and it made my cholesterol go up, so now I do low fat low carb, with the exception of right this minute..I am having some hawaiaan( I SO did not spell that right) pizza with tomatoes and broccoli on it, but only four tiny slices of a small. I was really hungry!

Good Luck to you and keep us posted on your progress!

Yes welcome, Lucy.

We have a rat, too. Her name is Miss Kitty. Our dog is Jersey, and the cats are Dixie and Dakota. Add to the mix my husband, my 9yr old son, and my 6 yr old daughter.

I stay pretty busy.

:-)

Hope to see you around.

Mel! You have a ratty-rat? I didn't know! Maybe I missed it in your profile or something....I sometimes post over on the small animal board where LOTS of ladies have rats....I love my fur children!

Welcome, Lucy! I'm new to the board too. I can relate to how you feel. I'm starting off at 310 lbs. Just starting a plan seemed as daunting to me as trying to scale Mount Fuji, but I sware once you actually start it does get a little better every day. I'm starting off really slow and easy because that is what I feel comfortable with right now. I'm walking twice a day (not speed walking, just strolling, lol) and I have started watching my portion sizes and cutting out foods that are just junk (full of sugar or fat and not nutritional). The best thing I think a person can do starting out is to not view this as a "diet". It makes it seem less scary to consider it a gradual change of lifestyle.

Well, glad to meet you. If you need help, just "holler" and we'll all come running, lol.
