Losing Weight Costs $$$ !!!

This is a rather bizarre post, but everyone is used to that by now I suppose. I had this idea of posting my shopping list from yesterday, and wondered what everyone else's shopping cart looks like(being the horrendously nosey shark that I am)and would like to debate/discuss food prices, whether processed food costs more than fresh whole foods, does anybody find it expensive to shop healthy, and does anyone enjoy grocery shopping (Or am I the only freakziod that does?)

I'll start by answering my own questions: I love to grocery shop, especially by myself. I can get it done faster, but have more time to choose, select, think without the distractions of my boyfriend. What an A$$PAIN he is to shop with. When I did Atkin's full-on, by-the-book, it seemed like I spent alot more on groceries and found myself making more trips for little crap that I ran out of. I feel it can be a bit more expensive in some ways to eat healthy, especially produce, because it's glacial in NH 9 months out of the year and the only thing that grow here are pine trees and cows. I know frozen entrees and highly procesde foods can get expensive, because you have to pay for the extra packaging, so on and so forth. I think some prices are higher for things regionally, so fill me in if this is the case. I would be interested in everyone's thoughts and what you shop for and your ideas.

Fruits are half the price in Chinatown here than the big chain supermarkets for FAR better quality.

We also sometimes buy our produce at a wholesalers. Also far better quality than the supermarket for cheap.

Chinatown cherries: $1.99/pound regular price

chain supermarket: $3.49 ON SALE

(all prices Canadian $)

Hey shawna, I hate to ask for fear of starting something, but what do you do with the salmon. How do you cook it? Is it good? Would my kids eat it? I've never had salmon except in fried pattyform when I was a kid. Do you eat other kids of fish too? I get so tired of beef I could just puke, but that is what they prefer.

I pan fry salmon in peanut oil, with shredded ginger and a sauce of water-thinned soy sauce and a dab of sugar cooked in the pan drippings.

Good on top of veggie fried rice.

Tilapia is good raw in ceviche. Or steamed in the nuker with soy sauce and hot oil with a load of cilantro.

Sounds good Shawna. I'll bet the old child wouldn't eat it either though.

OK now my ignorant side is coming out: What is talapia? I assume it fish. Never heard of it. Thanks for the info. Hugs, Brenda

ceviche is raw fish that's "cooked" to opacity in citrus juice.
