Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, we are drenched in a whole lot of different cultures. I was just wondering if any of you have a flair to cook foods from other cultures. I am Mexican American, so of course those foods are in my menu. But I was with a Samoan man, and heavily drenched in that culture, so I cook Polynesian foods also. I love to Wok, do Italian Gemelli with Chicken and Sun Dried Tomatoes, and then go to the health side with some organics, Protein Smoothies and Wheat Grass Drinks. How about y'all?

use tofu in stir fry and soup (miso, hot & sour)

you can buy dry tofu (it's brown) and goes well with a sesame oil, touch of soy sauce and vinegar and celery salad

almond tofu & canned fruit cocktail for dessert

list is endless.

Yup,

Tofu can do EVERYTHING. From desserts to main dishes, tofu can do it. I mainly buy extra firm, press it (wrap it in paper towels and stick a pan on top, then put a book or other weight on the pan) so some of the liquid leaves and then marinate it. If you press it first, it sucks up the flavor. You can use any marinade under the sun. Then I stir-fry it. But you can buy barbequed tofu that's good for salads, too.

One of my friends makes a totally kick a** tofu peanut butter pie.

Last year one of my friends kept asking the same question "how do you cook tofu?" So he had a tofu party and everyone brought a dish with tofu in it. It was pretty cool.

You do all that to get the liquid out? I say borrow a Hummer and drive over that bad-boy, then you'll really be able to marinate it>>>LOL, actually, part of the Tofu mystery to me is that it tastes like anything it is near, so ,,,,,why not just put more of that stuff instead of Tofu...

wanna hear something funny? my old X-butthead whatz-iz-name is Samoan and his name is Tafa (pronounced TAH FAH)....some people couldn't say that so they called him Tofu, and others called him Tofa- which in Samoan means Good Bye! Maybe I should have called him Tofa ten years ago! Anyway, when we split, I instantly lost 350 lbs...big butthead..but I'm not angry or anything,,,,,hehehehe

I am not really good at it but I have picked up a few foods from Japan since I have been here. I do sushi, Yaki Soba, and Soba soup. I also do this Mexican/Japanese cross thing called Taco Rice. It is the inside of a taco served over rice. They say that the resteraunts here started making it for the americans who missed Mexican food. It is really good.
