Do you cook Ethnic Foods?

Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, we are drenched in a whole lot of different cultures. I was just wondering if any of you have a flair to cook foods from other cultures. I am Mexican American, so of course those foods are in my menu. But I was with a Samoan man, and heavily drenched in that culture, so I cook Polynesian foods also. I love to Wok, do Italian Gemelli with Chicken and Sun Dried Tomatoes, and then go to the health side with some organics, Protein Smoothies and Wheat Grass Drinks. How about y'all?

My boyfriend is Mex-American, and his mother has shown me lots of new dishes to cook...and she is a really good cook. I have started making a lot more Mexican dishes with whole-wheat tortillas, and low-fat cheese to make it better for me...and I love it...I am also very into German food, but that is not very low-fat. I loooove sausages, cheeses, bread, pork, 'kraut....hmmm...gosh I want some right now lol, but I love to cook.

But Roger told me that when we get married, the kitchen is HIS domain! He is going to go to school to be a chef when we move in September, and he already said "Stay outa my kitchen!"

Hi, Sara. So funny that you would mention the Mexican German thing. I went to Germany 2x and love it, and love so much of the German food, but I don't think there should ever be a crossing of those foods, like salsa kraut :) dede

Not my question but Boloxi is in Mississippi. I lived in Pascagoula, which is just down the road, when I was in the 3rd grade. Many years ago!! :-) Stephanie

Me too! I love foods from all different cultures, and I enjoy experimenting with new recipes. The food channel has been a blessing, as I've learned a lot of new recipes and many of those ethnic, for example, Cuban bbq just yesterday on Bobby Flay.

You know I don't do a lot of the desserts because I try to avoid that sort of thing, but I do know they aren't as sweet. I see a lot of cakes that look like ours, but they don't have as much sugar. They also do this thing with tofu and fruit syrup that is good. I love to go to the bakery, but you have to be careful. You may think you are getting chocolate and then end up with bean curd. (yuck) They also have green tea ice cream.

We used to do a culture exchange with the students. I would take them out to Burger King on base and they were amazed at the size of a small coke. To them that was huge as was most of the serving sizes. Then I would take them to the store and let them choose different snacks and drinks and we would have a tasting party. they would be polite, but you could tell that they didn't like the candy and fruit drinks like snapple. Next time I eat out I will look for you. sharla
