1. My eating has probably been the biggest thing. I'm much more conscious of the food choices I make. I'm not exercising much more than I used to, and physically I haven't noticed other changes.

2. I liked food too much and was too lazy to take the time to make smart decisions. Also, too willing to give into cravings.

3. No.

4. No. My issues with elevated blood pressure are most likely hereditary and would have been a problem regardless of my weight.

5. I had a boss who liked to tease me (and vice versa). One time he suggested that I needed to take a well-known herbal supplement to lose weight. I reported him to the store manager for harassment, and he gave me a very heart-felt apology.

6. Going swimming.

7. My doctor at the student health center told me that I should start exercising, managing my stress, and eating less sodium to bring down my blood pressure, but that I would see dramatic improvements if I lost just 5 or 10 percent of my body weight. My resting pulse rate went down, as did my diastolic blood pressure. My systolic has stubbornly remained in the 130+ range, despite losing about 45 pounds or so and exercising six hours a week, which is why I think my prehypertension is hereditary.

1-What's changed since you started losing(ex.eating, exercise, mental, physical)

All of the above. Old thoughts - ate whatever I wanted, exercise is for jocks only, "life's too short to eat diet food", just kept buying larger clothes to accomodate my size.

2-Since losing have you thought about what added in your gaining weight?

Sitting on my butt in front of the computer and eating doritos and drinking 4 cokes a day during university really did the trick.

3-Have you ever dealt with depression, if so what did you do?

Still very depressed at times, see the scars on my arm? yeah.

4- Has your weight given you any health issues?

Nope.

5- Have you ever been put down by friends, family or strangers for being overweight,if so how did you handle it?

Yes, yes, and yes. And I don't know what to do because people STILL call me fat at 5'2" and 113 pounds, 20% body fat.. I don't know how much thinner I can get to please myself and the whole phucking world.

6- What are most looking forward to doing when you reach goal?

Sit without having stomach rolls.

7- Has a doctor ever told you that you need to lose weight?

Yes.

1-What's changed since you started losing(ex.eating, exercise, mental, physical)

I've noticed that I don't have the cravings the way I used to, and I am enjoying food more because I'm more picky about what I'll eat and will only "cheat" if it's something really worth having. Before I would have just wolfed food down without even tasting it. I've also noticed more energy and looser clothes.

2-Since losing have you thought about what added in your gaining weight?

I've always been somewhat overweight all my life, but never obese until I started working at a desk job. Once I did that, my activity level went WAY down and I started packing on the pounds. So now I try to get some activity in my day, whether it's a walk at lunchtime (weather permitting) or just getting up from my desk more often to walk around the office.

3-Have you ever dealt with depression, if so what did you do?

I've been very lucky that I never really had to deal with depression. I'm generally a happy person.

4- Has your weight given you any health issues?

Only recently, my BP has been high and I'm on medication for it. But it is hereditary so I probably would have had high BP anyways. My cholesterol and triglicerides are excellent.

5- Have you ever been put down by friends, family or strangers for being overweight,if so how did you handle it?

I've never been put down by my family, but I have heard comments by other people. It hurts, but I usually just try to ignore it. Not easy to do, though.

6- What are most looking forward to doing when you reach goal?

There are so many things! I'm looking forward to wearing shorts and tank tops without being embarrassed about my arms or legs, getting my picture taken without cringing, and just having energy to do things and not worry about whether or not I'm "too fat" to do something.

7- Has a doctor ever told you that you need to lose weight?

Believe it or not, I once had an eye doctor tell me that if I didn't lose weight, it would affect my eyesight! That was a new one lol!

Gonna be a long one so I hope you are comfortable....

1-What's changed since you started losing(ex.eating, exercise, mental, physical)

- Well, my eating has definetly changed for the better. Three years ago it started out with plain old starvation (not healthy but it was what worked at the time)and has progressed to Atkin's, then finally low carb/low fat/as possible. At first I just wanted to be smaller, then my cholesterol numbers came in to play. I am not into excersize as much as I should be..the problem is, I have a hard time sticking to it. I'm busy and have a rotating schedule. I do things like walk, garden, swim, hike, ride horses. At work I do calf raises and leg lifts, squats, half-push ups, stretching...The only consistent regular physical activity I have is sex. (Hey! It still counts!)Mental changes...my depression resurfaced along with anxiety (job related most likely)and the particular med I was put on made my appetite VANISH for almost a month.(HELPFUL!!!) I feel better and have more consistent days, but when juggling depression, anxiety, mild Tourette's, and Borderline Personality Disorder, it can be tiring. I have noticed a change in my overall self esteem and am not as self conscious as I used to be, and I enjoy the positve remarks made on my behalf. My supervisor at work, though, holds a thinly veiled contempt for me over my weight loss and looks, which I find rather tiring at times. When other co-workers have something nice to say to me, she just glowers and never offers a compliment. She started WW with her daughter (my best friend and Jewish Mom Guardian Angel)and has had really good results, which I mention to her. She looks great and I told her so. I can't help the fact that my attractive quota has risen with the more weight I lose. It makes me uncomfortable, because I don'nt have the fat to hide behind. I was invisible for years, and I'm suddenly on display. Thank GOD for medication. Physically, I look better NOW than I did at 18/same weight. Weird. And I wear smaller pants. I am alot stronger and can do more. I remember when I couldn't bend over to tie my shoes without suffocating or at least turn bright red.

2-Since losing have you thought about what added in your gaining weight?

- I think what really facilitated the gain was complacency, and unsatisfying intimate relationships with men. I wasn't getting the emotional nurturing I needed, so I turned to food. Since I have been with Kyle (a year and a week) I have lost the most weight and been very pro-active about getting it off. Kyle has been extremely supportive as well.

3-Have you ever dealt with depression, if so what did you do?

- Yes..most of my adult life. And I ate, ate, ate...didn't abuse drugs or alcohol, but credit cards, restaurants, food. So not only did I gain 105 pounds, I managed to incur a $17,000 debt as well. Any questions why I was depressed?

4- Has your weight given you any health issues?

- Surprisingly, not many.(except mental)I blew out a median ligament and meniscal cartilage in my knee and I had a lower back problem for a short period. But BP, blood sugar and cholesterol were within good ranges, so I was doing okay.

5- Have you ever been put down by friends, family or strangers for being overweight,if so how did you handle it?

- Oh, the passive-aggressive subtleties of this one!!! Friends - not really. But one used it to her advantage to get more attention from guys. She figured no one would want the fat chick, so she had a better chance at them. One of the reasons we aren't friends anymore! Family... *%#!@*(&!#@#!!!!!!! My stepmother and her family are very self absorbed and image conscious...oh, you have such a pretty face...tsk tsk tsk..You know, if you lost weight you'd blah blah blah...have you lost weight? You look really good! Are you sure you want seconds? How did I deal with it/ Rather patetically..I just smiled and nodded and skulked off...until recently, at a family gathering, when some well meaning family member said a little too loud," Hey! Where'd all the fat go? You look great! How'd you do it?" And I paused, looked him square in the eye and replied "Your breath REEKS and you have a HUGE booger in your nose." And then I whispered to him while he was still recovering - "See how unneccessary either of those exchanges were? Now F*CK off."

6- What are most looking forward to doing when you reach goal?

- Looking stunning in a wedding dress, and not worry about weight gain if I decide to have a baby someday. Being able to wear clothes that I've never been able to wear. Now, these might not be the most noble goals, but I've suffered way too long to not enjoy my body for a few years before AARP starts mailing me.

7- Has a doctor ever told you that you need to lose weight?

- Yes. And he could not come up with a valid reason why. He said because I'll live longer. he said that I will die of heart disease or diabetes. He said I'd feel better about myself. And I then pointed out that ALL of his office assistants and nurses were FAT. Some fatter than me. I asked if my blood values were all fine, and I was active and ate fairly healthy and had NO family history of anything, PLUS I didn't smoke, then WHY would extra pounds be the death of me? He couldn't answer and I have seen a nurse practiconer ever since, who has NOT once suggected that any of my problems were weight related (like Dr did).

I could go on and on....

Amy
