I was reading my book today and he asked some poll questions of 273 overweight women.

No to both. Gonna pull a 'Neo' from the matrix here - I am in control of my own destiny. At least until my next paycheck.

BTW, I am watching Insomniac with Dave Attel and there is a six foot inflatable penis on his show. How nice.

1. I'd take your weight pill in a heart beat. Even if it meant I only had 20 more years to live.

2. I would not take the age pill. This likfe is not worth living five more years. :(

1. If you could take a pill tonight that guaranteed you would wake up in the morning at goal weight and never gain again....would you take it although it would lower your life expectancy? How many years would you be willing to give up so that you could be at goal the rest of your life?

.............No I wouldn't take it. Life is too precious to me and I really want to be around to see my future grandkids (if I am blessed by having any).

2. If you could take a pill that would guarantee that you would live 5 years longer, would you take it even though it would mean that you would become or remain overweight? (Use your definition of overweight...)

.............I would probably take this pill. I cherish every second I have with my family. My dh treats me like a goddess, my kids are so cute and sweet they could give you a toothache, lol! I really enjoy being alive now that I'm no longer allowing my weight to hold me back. I still have my low moments (really low moments), but I am actually LIVING again. Yes, I could remain as heavy as I am now (304 lbs.) if it meant I could extend my life for five years. I'd rather have five more years of fat and happiness than be skinny and die tomorrow.

No, no pills in either scenario. Just enjoying life, and why would anyone do that sort of thing? Beats me.

I've been thinking about this question all day long.

The first one is easy, definitely NO! The second one I'm on the fence about. I guess it would depend on the definition of overweight. If I'm 20 or even 50 pounds overweight, then maybe. But if I'm so overweight that it interferes with quality of life, then I would say no.

Well, I guess it depends on how you interpret "life expectancy". Does he mean, lower than what it would already be since I'm so overweight? Or does he mean lower than what it would be if I was at a healthy weight? See, I had grand-parents who lived to be over 100, and a mother who died when she was 57. I'd CERTAINLY be willing to take some years off of that top number, since my overall health and quality of life would be so much improved! As it is, I'm afraid I won't live much longer than my mom if I DON'T lose weight, so I sure wouldn't be willing to take any years off of THAT number. I'd settle for 70 - 80 years if it was healthy and active - but I would absolutely NOT do the second thing (adding 5 more years but staying overweight - that would just be prolonging the misery!) But since weight loss is next to impossible for me due to my existing health conditions, the whole idea of a magic pill sounds pretty good :-)
