Nate has been wanting one of them motorized scooters… he said he wanted one for his 9th birthday I was like oh he!! No…. first of all they are like 500 bucks… second of all he don’t need motorized….

Today I went to Toys R Us to get some ideas and they had motor scooters that said 8 and up and they only went like 8mph that’s slower then he rides his bike! They have 3 wheels instead of only 2 so I started to think if maybe this one would be safe enough for him but I still don’t know if I can allow my still a baby on something that runs without foot power lol.. What do yall think?

You might want to check with your local authorities first, before buying. I know in our area it's against the law to ride them on sidewalks, and on public streets or in public parks. So people buy these things expecting to be able to ride them publically, but unless they are confined to their own yards...well, here at least, it's fine-able. Your child...your decision as to when/if....but consider looking into your area's statutes first.

FH (frigging Husband) and I fight over this from time to time.

I am absolutely against them. I feel that a regular bike that you pedal is fine enough. Besides, kids need exercise. Especially today when they are plopped in front of the boob tube or Playstation.

I feel that anything motorized can be hazardous. Especially to my not-so-mature DS. I know, I know, "but Deb, you ride a MOTORCYCLE!" Yes I do, but I didn't get my motorcycle license until I was almost 28. I have also been thinking of selling my bike and giving up riding if only to deter my son from wanting to do so.

Head injuries are not something to be taken lightly. Helmets are the law around here, but there are SO many kids that take them off when no adults are around. Peer pressure is a stupid, dangerous thing...
