The funeral hasn't taken place yet. The public viewing began Wednesday night, after a public procession through Washington and a private ceremony in the Rotunda. And yes, I saw that.
I left the channel on ABC so I caught bits and pieces all day on it but the actual funeral ceremony is tomorrow..here is a schedule (I know I have noo life dont rub it in just go buy me some things from your snotty stores wink)
ok eta i just read ur piost sorry didnt realize the diofferences...anyways and I forgot to add the kink
the state funeral is a different funeral from the national funeral
there are actually 3 funerals for a dead president: family, state, and national. each one is guided by different protocol and US codes. only time the state funeral is not in the capital is when the president is in office then it is in the white house.
"Ronald Reagan will be the first former president to have a state funeral in Washington since Lyndon Johnson in 1973.
Today: Reagan lies in repose at his presidential library in Simi Valley, Calif., until Tuesday evening.
Wednesday: Reagan's body is flown to Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington. At 6 p.m. ET, a formal funeral procession begins to the U.S. Capitol, with the casket transferred onto a horse-drawn caisson at 1600 Constitution Ave. Reagan lies in state in the Capitol Rotunda starting at 8:30 p.m. until Friday morning.
Friday: Funeral starts at 11:30 a.m. at Washington National Cathedral. Private burial will follow at the Reagan library."
Personally, I don't think President Reagan's passing is something to argue about. The man, and the office of the Presidency, and the American people in mourning deserve respect. (Hi Forte...it's very nice seeing you on the board today. Karrie, when the funeral occurs on Friday I will watch it and observe a moment of silence for Reagan for our country and for Nancy and the family)
I admit I dont have a life but c'mon..not going to argue about THIS . I have to agree with Kinja on this one and out of respect for the former president and his family stepping back and keeping my mouth shut .
Thank you Karrie for explaining about the 3 different funerals..but now my head is spinning lmao...I musta missed that day in history class Poor Nancy..did you see her yesterday? She looks so small and frail!!
