Hi,

I am new!

I have already started my weight loss but need some support, I am living in Europe and do not know many people who can understand. I am moving back to Canada this summer, and hope to continue working hard.

About me...My hightest weight is 245 pounds, currently I weigh 207 pounds, and my goal is 145 pounds. I am 24 years old, an artist, and have a great boyfriend. I have been overweight since I was 10 years old, and have tried many things to lose weight.

I especially need advice about emotional eating!

Thanks,

kristrin

Welcome, Kristin!!!!! You have certainly come to the right place - most of us here are in the process of losing, some have lost, some are just starting. And I think most of us can chime in about emotional eating. I used to do it alot, still do sometimes.

Congrats on your progress so far, and for posting your stats! What, if any diet or excersize have you been doing, or are you just fiddling with portions or cutting out certain things? Everyone here has a different plan of attack ; some do Atkins, Weight Watchers, South Beach, their own thing, carb or calorie counting, being more active...hey - whatever works. Everyone is so different here and has different needs, metabolically/physicaaly AND mentally. I did Atkins for a while and then was put on a customized diet form a dietician who put me on low carb AND low fat, and what a difference THAT made! Holy COW! Basically I did not handle saturated fat well and Atkins made my cholesterol go up. It's a medically sound diet if you don't overdo it in the fatty meat dept.

We have lots of fellow Canadians here as well so I'm sure you'll fit right in. Thanks again for introducing yourself and welcome.

Amy

Hi Kristin and welcome! Congratulations on your weight loss so far! Your stats sound similar to mine, except that you've lost more weight than me so far. I started out at 247 and am now at 218. I hope to be at 150 or so when I reach goal. Not sure exactly what my goal weight should be yet, since I've never been there, but I'm thinking around 150 would be good.

You must be excited about moving to Canada. As someone said in an earlier post, we have quite a few Canadians on this board so you should feel right at home.

Again, welcome and glad you decided to join us :-)

Thank you very much for the great welcome... it's really appriciated. I have been living in Holland for 2.5 years and over here it is difficult to find ANYTHING lowfat/lowcal...

I began in January with Atkins, but only lost maybe 10 pounds?? It is very difficult to continue on this one when you cannot completely control your environment. I went to go China on a research program with my school and although some Chinese foods are great for Atkins, most had sauces with sugar/rice flour and even though I was brave some of the meat I did not like (snake!). So I ate rice... and that was the end of Atkins for me... I couldn't lose weight with the program after this.

I have been counting calories in the Fitday website trying to stay below 1400-1500 per day. It has helped a bit. Also reading books like Dr. Phil and websites like www. skinnydaily.com for motivation. I have only a scale which reads in Kilos that I convert to pounds, but to lose one kilo takes SO MUCH longer... I need to stay off this scale!

The other main thing that is good about living in Holland is that everyone rides their bike for transportation... so I have been consiously trying to excercise. Swimming also, and it has made me "firm up" all over !!

I have been reading the posts here a bit and am very excited to participate ;)

ciao
