Our Weekend- OT

The weekend got off to a great start (insert sarcasm here) with the bathroom door falling off it's hinges a few hours before Furry and family were to arrive. THANK GOODNESS for Rob, who fixed it(works better than it did before- good job, Babe), while I chopped up veggies for dinner. I'd managed to do several of my "to do's" but was still paranoid (like Furry's gonna come through the house with white gloves....I'm such a moron some days). Rob fixed the door, started cooking dinner, I called Rob's relatives and reminded them I had plans for the weekend so I would not be babysitting, running errands, or otherwise acknowledging any of their collective existence til Sunday evening, at the earliest. (it worked, my phone never rang while they were here) Then I spent the rest of the time til they arrived looking out the window. LOL!

YAY! They arrived around 6:45 on Friday night. I didn't care about the white gloves from that moment on. I swear I have never, ever been as immediately comfortable with someone in my life. Aside from everything we have in common, the blend of humor and sarcasm, wit and wisdom we are treated to from Furry's posts has NOTHING on how she is in person. I did NOT feel as if I were meeting them for the first time, I felt like family had come to visit. Except I liked them more than I do most of my family ;-)

We played a lot of cards, had a few drinks, visited the Chief Blackhawk statue, had lunch in Oregon, IL at an oldies drive-in called Jay's, went to the Reagan memorial, played Dance Dance Revolution, and Rob wrestled with all the children much to their delight. This morning Furry made us breakfast (I feel SO grateful to have had a weekend reprieve from the kitchen- Thanks so much, Rob and Furry!).

I felt like I was having a slumber party since Rob took the couch and Furry, her daughter and I shared my room. I really had a wonderful time and all of my fears seemed to be for naught, because I think everyone had fun. I love her kids- they are VERY engaging children, and so intelligent! My animals reveled in the attention they received and I can't imagine a better weekend. They left today a bit before 1 and I was sad to see them go, but excited knowing that we're only an hour and a half away from each other and visits can happen often. :-)

hugs to all, and hope you had wonderful weekends as well!

Mel, it sounds like you guys had an awesome weekend! I think it would be great to meet some of the people from the boards. It's almost like we should have a convention somewhere where we could all fly in and meet each other. Of course with all our busy lives, not to mention the expense of the airline tickets, I don't think that would happen anytime soon, but I'm glad that you and Furry got to know each other better and it's great that you live so close to each other (relatively speaking). We had a good weekend as well, though not as much fun as you!
