Hi Everyone ~ don't know if anyone remembers me. I started posting here consistantly around February and kinda dropped off the board around the end of March. Needless to say, I also dropped off my Atkins WOE around the same time. So, now almost the end of June having gained back the 17lbs I lost and more, I've decided to get back on track. Better late than never? I am at my heaviest I have ever been in my entire life and not only am I noticing it in my appearance and how my clothes aren't fitting from last summer, I am feeling it was well. My knees are starting to ache (when they never did), I am getting heartburn more often and have absolute no energy level. I can't even admit to any of my friends and family some of the other issues I go through on a daily basis; ie: having problems getting up off the floor after sitting, fitting in to seats in the movie theatre (have they made them smaller?!) and putting on a seat belt in a car. I can't take it anymore. It has now become not only a lose weight issue but I want to feel healthy! So, I've decided to do something about it.

My current weight is at 267 and I'm about 5" tall. Of course, I know what I look like but I never feel that I "look" like I weigh that much. Even a few friends are completely surprised by my actual weight and they say I must carry it well. (What else are they gonna say though right????)

I know everyone on this board is on different WOE. I have decided to go back on Atkins but would like to know if anyone here has tried modifying it at all. I'm concerned about the fat intake with that WOE but am still would like to cut out the "bad carbs". I'd like to get my carbs from fruits and veges, which I know are limited on that program. Does anyone have any advice on a "low fat low carb" program at all? (modified Atkins or maybe another WOE/program altogether?)

Let me finish by saying, I know I will not drop the amount of weight I need to lose in a few days/weeks/months. I understand I have spent my entire life packing these pounds on, so I'm not looking for a "quick fix". I'm looking for a healthier way to live.

Glad to be back and looking forward to any replies...

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Welcome back, Kerry. I'm relatively new, been around only three or four weeks I think. It sounds like you're ready to get back on track. Getting your mental strategy all worked out is the best first step. I'm sending you all the ~~~~~get up and go~~~~ vibes I can muster :)

Nice to meet you and I hope to get to know you better!

Hi Kerry, I think I remember you! Welcome back and glad you decided to come back here again. I know we have one person doing a modified version of Atkins. Her name is Amy (Barkingshark is her username). She's doing a low fat/low carb plan and she's done great! She's only about 5 pounds away from goal now. Well, I'll let her tell you all about it, but I know that she'll have lots of advice for you.

Anyways, Glad to see you back again!

Kerry,welcome back!

I can relate to how you feel with the heartburn and such.I never realized that I was living off of Tums until my DH mentioned that I was constantly having to buy more all the time...ugh!

As far as a modified Atkins...maybe look into South Beach.I've not tried either, but I have heard that South Beach is a little more relaxed on what carbs you can have, though don't quote me on that...I may be completely wrong.

Hope to see more of you =)

Welcome back, you might want to look into the South Beach Diet, it's not low carb, but rather GOOD carb and good fats.

I'm so glad to read your story. Yours was the first message I had the good fortune to click upon. I related to so many of the things you said! (Heaviest weight ever, small seats and so on) You should be proud for making a choice. My mom always tells me that's the first step to a change. I'm glad we're both here. Yay us!
