I have mixed feeling about it though. In one way, I'm happy to see that there are people out there where "size doesn't matter to them" in some respect. But in another way, I feel upset that "we" (fat people) have to be defended. Who's business is it anyway? None of theirs really. And for the lady in that thread that said she's concerned for other people's health. How do we affect her life? Unless she's in the health profession where she's trying to find a cure for obesity or works with people on a daily basis, once again, it's none of her business.
I hope I'm not sounding rude or anything here but sometimes things like that just get my goat. (I really don't a have a goat, but if I did...lol)
Anyway, it's nice outside here today so I'm off to take my fat butt to the park to offend some more people!
Hoping to make chat tonite...anyone else?

That is awesome Amy :)
Hi, I haven't read the posts over there. I will in a moment, probably. But right now I'm just responding to yours.
The truth of the matter is that obesity is EVERYBODY'S business, and we're reading now about how soon obesity will become the number #1 cause of "preventable death" in the United States. It costs every single American money, whether that person is obese or not. It affects insurance premiums, costs of health care, and lots of other things. So it's perfectly understandable that others, even the non-obese, would **weigh in** so to speak, and discuss it. A person doesn't have to be a smoker, or a drinker, to weigh in on those issues. Same thing regarding obesity in America. It definitely is EVERYBODY'S BUSINESS. The obesity epidemic affects us all, whether a person is overweight or underweight or ideal weight. Makes no difference, the problem of obesity in this country is bordering on a national health crisis.
That seems like a pretty big generalization, Shawna. Where do you get the statistics to back that up? I mean, how do you know what "most people" think about overweight people? I don't think we can ever say "most people" think xyz, without some concrete data to show that. In fact, most people are a pretty diverse lot and think all sorts of things....not all the same at all, I don't think so.
Smoking affects everyone because of second hand smoke. Excessive drinking affects everyone because of drunk driving. Besides the medical costs, how does obesity affect everyone?

Yes, she said that, but I think you may have missed the >>In my opinion,<< she placed just prior to the above statement. Let's see if I remember correctly..........
PERSONAL OPINION: *Personal-Concerning a particular person and his or her business, ideas, interests, or activities/ Opinion-A belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof*
Agree or disagree, but it is her personal opinion (which she made perfectly clear)....no proof, no statistics required.
