I find this whole thing kind of funny . When I got home last night I checked my email and got an email from one of my dear online friends . She is from India and is very blunt and honest . I appreciate her and she reminds me alot of a child because of her raw honesty . Anyways she was commenting on my pics and said I was very beautiful but "if you would only lose some weight you would be drop dead gorgeous" I was taken aback for a second and almost hurt....I had to take a minute and remember who it was telling me this

I don't think most people think overweight people are lazy, or that they were "dealt a bad hand" for that matter. I think most people, if they have an opinion on it at all, probably think that overweight has to do with eating excessive calories, in other words not burning off all the calories taken in on a regular basis. And in fact, we know that obesity is caused by eating more calories than the body needs, coupled with lack of enough regular exercise.

Maybe, and I think I will agree with you on one point, most people would say that overweight people are not happy. I'm not sure about that either, though, because the stereotype is of "fat and happy." But I think most people would say "unhappy" otherwise overweight people wouldn't spend so much money and so much energy on weight loss (and the diet industry which sprang up around weight loss wouldn't be making a mint).

Anyway, I personally wouldn't waste too much time or too much energy worrying about what "other people" (anonymous strangers, who may not even exist) may-or-may-not-think about my waistline. The important thing is what I THINK, not what anonymous strangers might imagine. Life's too short to sweat the small stuff. And what strangers think of me is, I THINK, small stuff indeed.

>>The truth of the matter is that obesity is EVERYBODY'S business,<<

Our Chamber of Commerce meetings are on local tv each week, so I'd have to agree with you there!
