Seeing as I already went on vaca (but I swear it's time for another), I'll answer for where I did go and where our next trip might take us.
What are you planning to do or see while on vacation?
* We really wanted to drive to the Grand Canyon while in Arizona, but were hit with reality with how HUGE the state is. We were abot 3.5 to 4 hours away, and had Kyle not been with me, I might have attempted it. But since he is a diabetic, and a little uncomfortable with so much space and so many people, I decided against it. We did hike Pinnacle Peak which I loved, but it really did Kyle in because he didn't take into account that we WERE HIKING IN THE DESERT and he should eat more before we left. He was hypoglycemic and had the beginning of sun poisoning/exhaustion by the time we got back down. WHY don't they Ever LISTEN?!?!
If had your top choice for a vacation, where would you go and why?
* Oooh...tough one. I would like to go to the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean, or Morocco. I am interested in Baja, Mexico for a honeymoon destination.
How do you handle eating healthy and traveling?
* As best I can, LOL. I tried to eat as healthy as possible during the day, and only splurge for dinner, and even then I kept it fairly under control, unless you don't count the corn bread and whipped butter fit that I had at Z Tejas grill... I think that in most situations a good (or better) choice can be made. Aiports are just FULL of naughty things and I did pretty good at all of them. Kyle got completely COCKED in the Philly airport and I was afraid they wouldn't let him on the plane....
Do you still try to exercise?
* Amazingly enough, I exercised MORE on vaca than at home. I even got up early to walk in the morning. We walked alot, shopped, hiked, swam.
Do you really relax on vacation or are you always on the move?
* 50/50
Where did you spend your last vacation?
* Phoenix/Scottsdale/Tempe, Arizona. Drove into Mesa briefly to go to the Harley Davidson shop and to look at an apartment complex...Mesa scared the crap out of us (Even ME being from Boston)and we boogied back to Tempe and had dinner on Mill Ave...phew...
Think that is enough questions?
* Not even close.
I live in the Netherlands and everyone has a REALLY relaxed attitude to eating, lots of cheese... gouda, etc, but almost all Dutch people ride bikes EVERYWHERE. Even very elderly people hoof it around, and people move furniture on bikes. They exercise all the time without really trying to, and it took me a while before I stopped sweating on my 2km trek to the market for veggies but, hey... lol
This year I have spend more time in Italy visiting my boyfriend's family in Venice and backpacking around to Sardingia, Rome, Pisa, and Italians eat very pure whole foods, fresh from the market, and a lot at lunch but very little for breaky/dinner. The same is in France... they use very high quality foods but very little amounts in reality (local people, not restaurants!). In Spain they eat a lot of seafood I just called it the "aquarium" and they steam most of their foods. These women definately do not have the same fear of foods because of years of dieting culture in their lives. They can enjoy simple, good, things in moderation and not freak out.
In the UK this year I was in Dublin and Scotland, and although the food there is a wee bit nasty (chips and potatoes) they call dieting "slimming" which I liked very much. "I just need to slim a bit" seemed a bit more positive and gradual.
In the spring I spent about 5 wks in China and that was very crazyfun. There is an entirely spirtual/historical background to the food choices and the women friends I met explained that they view food as medicine... so they will adjust what they eat in reaction to how they feel. And are careful how to combine foods: hot and cold foods are never eaten together, etc. I learned a lot. Also, they spend a lot of time doing various types of stretches usually related to tai chi to cleanse the body/mind. I tried to do this too... waking up at five am wearing my pajamas to the park like everyone else(!!!), and under the sunrise, hundreds of people do tai chi together.
Anyway. sorry for long post (I tried to edit myself!).I am moving home in 2 wks and the adventures are almost over. But these are the things that are helping to change my mind. Don't be afraid to travel, there is always something healthy to eat everywhere and lots to learn.
~If had your top choice for a vacation, where would you go and why?~ Top choice?Alaska at a time when the Auroras are brightest, just to experience the scenery and amazing light show.Other top choice would be Ixtapa in Mexico...we went there 10 years ago and I loved it and would like to see how different it is today, since they were building back then and only the hotels and few restaurants were up and running.
~How do you handle eating healthy and traveling?~ I don't diet on vacations, but I don't go hog wild either.
~Do you still try to exercise?~ When camping we do alot of hiking, swimming, and kyaking(sp?).At the Renn.faire,I'm sure we'll get in our walking for the day =)
~Do you really relax on vacation or are you always on the move?~We spend time relaxing. It's not much fun if you're always on the run to catch the next attraction or scenery imo.
~Where did you spend your last vacation?~ Indiana Beach(There's more then corn in Indiana ;o),or so they say)
The only problem WE have is the traffic, and wishing the tourists would all go someplace else.

Well, as I have mentioned before we are going to Mexico for our honeymoon, courtesy of my in-laws. We are going to the Riviera Maya, a really great honeymooners spot at an all inclusive resort. We will be about 45 minutes south of Cancun. In the four plus years we've been together this is our first ever vacation together. We haven't really had any mini-vacations either. As far as watching what I eat I'm not going to worry, maybe that's bad but I will probably never go to Mexico again, so....I am just going to enjoy myself and get back on track when I get back! As far as exercise it sounds like I will be doing lots of walking. We are going to the Ruins, on a Jungle tour, shopping, so I will be sure to get plenty, plus drinking a lot of water (bottled) as I am told is essential in the heat down there. We really want to go to Australia, someday...Would love to go to Ireland and Scotland. Next year were

Hawaii was always one of the top places where I wanted to go. Now my next big trip is going to be Alaska. I've always wanted to go there. I love mountains and the wide open scenery. I'm not sure when we'll make it there, but like Hawaii, that will be a trip of a lifetime for sure.
I usually don't worry too much about my eating on vacation. I tend to do more walking than usual when I travel so anything that I eat I usually burn off. When we went to Hawaii last month I only gained a half a pound and it came right off after we got home. When I'm on vacation I like to sample the local cuisine so I don't worry too much about the calories. I just worry about having a good time.
I'm one who likes to be on the go when I vacation. We like to do road trips and see the scenery. I never was one for just laying at the beach reading a book. I like to see and do things.
There, I think I answered all of your questions, Shawna lol!

>> A great benefit of being a teacher is that you get a summer off. The downside is that you don't have enough money to take full advantage of it. So, I usually go on a bunch of mini-road trips. We can't plan these; they just happen.
Where are you going?
>> So far, I have been to the Outer Banks and Charlotte (I live in NC). Next week, I'm heading to Atlantic Beach/Emerald Isle to hang out for a few days. A buddy of mine was also talking about a road trip somewhere before we start back to work.
What are you planning to do or see while on vacation?
>> At the OBX, we just hung out (I went with Mom and Dad). We went to the aquarium in Manteo one day, the Wright Memorial in Kill Devil Hills another, and I took my dad to Hooters for Father's Day. Then I went straight to Charlotte to a comic book convention to hang with other geeks. In Emerald Isle, me and a buddy plan to play tennis, golf, and watch girls.
If had your top choice for a vacation, where would you go and why?
>> Europe. I would go to the small towns and experience what the continent really has to offer (not just the touristy stuff).
How do you handle eating healthy and traveling?
>> I don't. Vacations usually mean a vacation from my diet. I gained five pounds at the beach and Charlotte.
Do you still try to exercise?
>> Some. I do more walking than usual.
Do you really relax on vacation or are you always on the move?
>> Relaxation is the whole point of the vacation. Just go with the flow. There's alot of sitting by the pool, watching the cars go by.
Where did you spend your last vacation?
>> Last year, I went to California, and stayed with friends. Then I camped out at the OBX about a month after Hurricane Isabel.
